Update 8:15 PM: Water Main Break – Emergency Repair Notice

A previously repaired section of water main at 14th & Crook has experienced a failure due to significant pipe degradation. This section—approximately 40 feet in length—was already scheduled for replacement last week.

However, during preparatory work, crews discovered that multiple valves in the area were seized or non-functional, making it impossible to isolate the line or reduce water pressure. Because of this, a specialized contractor was engaged to install a new valve on the active, pressurized main—a highly technical procedure performed by limited providers.

This work was already contracted and scheduled for completion tomorrow, but the main failed before the planned installation could take place, prompting the need for immediate emergency repair.

Contractors are currently on site preparing the area, and the specialty team is en route to begin critical repairs.

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we work as quickly and safely as possible to restore service. Further updates will be provided as progress is made.

Update 7:25 PM: Power has been successfully restored to the area. If you are still without power, please contact City Hall at 402.245.2851 and follow the prompts to report an outage so our team can assist you promptly.

At this time, we do not have any updates regarding the water main break near 14th & Crook. Crews are continuing to assess the situation, and we will share more information as it becomes available.

Original Post: EMERGENCY NOTICE – POWER OUTAGE & WATER MAIN BREAK

We are currently experiencing an unplanned power outage affecting the majority of customers across the service area. In addition, a water main break has been reported near 14th & Crook Street.

Our crews are actively assessing both situations, and we are working urgently to restore services as quickly and safely as possible.

Please avoid the area near 14th & Crook to allow crews safe access for repairs.

Water service in nearby areas may be temporarily disrupted or experience reduced pressure.

We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Update 5.2.2025 - 5:20 AM: We’re happy to report the testing of Engine 8 went smoothly. During testing, we identified vector controls within our engine automation programming were signaling a fault, which caused the generator to drop its ability to carry the load. Our team has completed the necessary repairs, and initial results indicate that this has successfully resolved the grid tie issues.
