Cue the creepy attack music! Did the movie “Jaws” keep you out of the water?

It was during this week in 1916 that the real life shark attacks along the Jersey Shore that inspired Peter Benchley’s novel “Jaws” began. It was July 1, 1916, and in Beach Haven the tourist season was in full swing. The beaches were filled with sunbathers and the ocean with swimmers. Everything seemed like just another hot July day. But this day would be different from any other. A young Penn graduate named Charles E. Vansant, a resident of Beach Haven, died after having been attacked by a shark while out swimming. A lifeguard pulled him in and tried to stop the profuse bleeding, but Charles could not be saved. Scientists of the area wrote this off as a singular freak occurrence. They could not have been more wrong. Continue reading... https://weirdnj.com/stories/matawan-man-eater/

Construction advisory on Business Route 1...be advised.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 25, 2018

Construction to Begin on Lincoln Highway Bridge in Falls Township

Bucks County Bridge to be replaced as part of Public-Private Partnership

King of Prussia, PA – Construction on the bridge carrying Lincoln Highway (Business U.S. 1) over the East Branch of Queen Anne Creek in Falls Township, Bucks County, is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 9 as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from the state’s list of structurally deficient bridges.

During full replacement of the bridge, Lincoln Highway (Business U.S. 1) between Kennedy Drive and Olds Boulevard will be reduced from four to two travel lanes. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur.

The Lincoln Highway (Business U.S. 1) bridge averages 10,612 daily vehicles. Built in 1921, the single-span concrete, solid slab bridge will be replaced with a new single-span culvert. Replacement work will be performed by Allan Myers of Worcester, PA. Construction is anticipated to be complete in late October.

In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.

This bridge is referred to as JV-211 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.

The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace, and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.

To see the bridges included in the statewide initiative and to learn more about the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, visit www.parapidbridges.com. Additional information on P3 programs in Pennsylvania can be found at www.p3forpa.pa.gov or by calling the project hotline at 877-444-9990 or email [email protected].
