Are you worried about Chiari / SM but can’t afford an MRI?
We understand.
The cost of living is tough. Vet fees have increased. Insurance doesn’t always cover everything. And hearing “MRI” can feel completely overwhelming.
If your dog is showing signs like:
• Yelping when picked up
• Pain changing position, especially at night
• Head scratching or rubbing
• Avoiding stairs or jumping
• Becoming more anxious, withdrawn or snappy
• Disturbed sleep
• Sensitivity around the head or neck
…it could be pain.
Here’s what you can do:
✔ Complete the free Chiari Check tool and show your vet the results https://caninechiari.com
✔ Take videos of symptoms to show your vet
✔ Ask about a pain relief trial, many of the commonly used medications are inexpensive and can dramatically improve comfort
✔ Consider a neurology consultation. An appointment is usually a few hundred pounds.
If your vet isn’t very familiar with Chiari or Syringomyelia, you can share information from the Chiari Check website to help guide the conversation.
If you still feel your concerns aren’t being taken seriously, it is absolutely okay to ask to see another vet within the practice, or another practice.
Also remember, some Cavaliers have significant heart disease and may not be ideal candidates for general anaesthetic.
In many cases, managing pain based on clinical signs is often the safest and most appropriate option.
