Happy 5th year anniversary…
The Great American Folk Show features artists who discuss the process of creating a work, be it a painting, screenprint, song, poem, a novel, or even a food item. Many North Dakota cafe owners on our recurring segment Dakota Diners have shared popular homemade eats such as apple pie with cheese on top, knoephla soup, and lefse. Yum! The creative process, no matter what the end result may be, relies on a maker’s strength. This is the perfect word to bring up to the top of the pile as GAFS turns five. Five years in any endeavor is known as the wood anniversary and this weekend’s show is a tall and strong one with pently of bark🌳
Tune in Saturday at 5 PM CT by finding Prairie Public on your radio dial in North Dakota or download our NPR Podcasts to hear Seattle’s very own singer-songwriter Shelby Earl, fiddlers Ellie MacPhee from Brooklyn and Josie Tompkins of the Medora Musical; plus, musicians Eoin Glackin from Dublin and Ned Swarbrick from York.
The people who work on this show are just as talented as the folks we spotlight on the show: prodcuer and editor Erik Deatherage, talent producer Mary Jones, director of radio Ann Alquist, digital specialists Christine McClellan and Lizzi Brosseau, and our theme music was created by both Burkum Boys and Sean Watkins. GAFS couldn’t exist without its fans and supporters, so thank you for phoning in a donation over the years, for sending in a check, for spreading the good word and tuning in every week. Deepest gratitude to the John and Elaine Andrist Charitible Trust and the Northwest North Dakota Community Foundation, Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Region, Minnkota Power Cooperative, First State Bank of Golva, and Erik Lorack and his family.
