I was only able to hunt on a return permission this morning for an hour here in south central Minnesota and was digging low and mid tone targets.

Nothing but foil and nails until I happened to find this beautiful copper Victorian piece.

After a Google lens search it turns out to be a piece of a beautiful Victorian sash buckle. It must have been just a an amazing piece when worn on a dress.

My best target of my morning hunt and I love it!

History In The Dirt

Two of my friends and I were invited to an early 1870s log home / blacksmith shop to do some metal detecting.

Our host rents out this unbelievable, original log home to a family that has six kids. To our surprise we had helpers on our hunt today.

These young boys had such great manners that it was a fun day hunting with this family. We would locate the targets and the kids took over.

After they got the older boys got the hang of my detector off they went with my assistance. One of the boys scored a great 1889 Indian head penny while the other boy found a huge sad iron.

We found some amazing items today that we gave back to the family and the are going to make a shadow box with most of the finds and add all of our names to it and then date it.

The kids and all of the adults have invited us back when we can for round two of History In The Dirt.

I went to a return permission late last night before the sun went down and was a bit cooler out. I found my first Bally’s Aladdin’s Castle coin and a marble in the hole.

I also found a bracelet that may represent a snowflake?

Heading out to an early pioneer site today with an original log cabin from the late 1800s out on the property, this should prove to be very interesting.

Civil War History Uncovered Tonight

I was metal detecting with Kevin Swanson tonight ( 6- 6 ) at an old homesite that we have been to once before.

My target sounded like a pop can in my headphones but dug for it anyways. To my surprise, it turned out to be a 160 year old Civil War Eagle Breast Plate.

I have learned from other metal detecting Facebook sites that this is an extremely odd find that most of us that enjoy this hobby never get to experience

I am thrilled beyond words to be able to say that I have found someone’s 160 year old, Civil War Eagle Breast Plate.

This is exactly why I love this hobby so much, to find bits and pieces from our history of yesteryear and post it here for all to enjoy.

What’s in your yard or on the farm or out in the field?

If your interested in finding out please send me a text message and I can work out a time and come over and see what history lies just below our feet?

What a fun day out metal detecting today

Out for a park hunt this afternoon, one large common clad spill and a wheat penny. It’s always fun to get out and swing the metal detector.

I was able to go out metal detecting to a new site, it was the land in town that once was owned by Alexander Faribault which he purchased it from the United States Government in around 1854

He then sold the land to General Shields which platted the land shortly after the purchase. The house that sits on this city lot was built around 1890 according to Beacon.

The owners son was also at this site and wanted to try using my detector. After showing him some basics and showing him how to lift the dirt out of the hole carefully, he was on his way.

I went into the house to see the remodel that the owner was doing and before you knew it his son had found two wheat pennies outside.

At the end of a couple of hours, his son had found some pretty cool items in the yard and could not wait to show the rest of the family when he got home.

What a fun afternoon.
