4. The world's first St. Patrick's Day parade took place in New York City in 1762, organized by Irish soldiers serving in the British army. Today, the New York City St. Patrick's Day parade is the largest parade in the world, with over 2 million spectators.

5. According to legend, St. Patrick drove all of the snakes out of Ireland. However, there is no evidence that snakes ever existed in Ireland.
