On May 27, 1928, WTIC launched its first-ever dedicated sports program—“Speaking of Sports”, hosted by Hartford Times sports editor A.B. McGinley.
It was WTIC’s first step into sports commentary, bringing Connecticut fans the latest news and insights straight from the newsroom to the airwaves.
But WTIC didn’t stop there. Just a few weeks later, on June 21, 1928, WTIC aired its first live sports event broadcast—the legendary Yale vs. Harvard Regatta from New London, and even fed the broadcast to the NBC network.
This was just the beginning of WTIC’s sports broadcasting legacy, which continues to this day.
