The Legend of the Valentines Bandit

In Portland, Maine, the legend of The Valentine’s Bandit was a wide spread phenomenon where an anonymous resident on one night before Valentine’s Day in 1976 put stickers and papers of red hearts around the Portland area.

This tradition was kept within Portland with many volunteers who made it part of a newly established ritual in Portland.

But the originator of this tradition, The Valentine’s Bandit’s identity was kept unknown to which was a mystery to many people.

It was not until Kevin Fahrman’s passing in 2023 where it was then revealed that he was the originator of the tradition.

This story was so powerful and carried so much momentum with the residents of Portland that the newly established professional soccer team, The Portland Hearts of Pine, dedicated the heart in their name and emblem to The Valentine’s Bandit to show the love that he showed the town of Portland.

“It wasn’t for recognition, it was completely selfless. And that’s what made it feel so magical,” - Sierra Fahrman, Kevin Fahrman’s daughter
