Very Awesome!
Last night this happened. A little girl named Madelinn sat with her father at the table in front of our band. At break her dad asked if she could have my autograph as it was her first time hearing live music. Wow! Of course so I gave her a photo and a sticker. By the next break she had drawn a picture on a napkin as a gift. Ok my heart is melting. I sit and visit with her and her dad on the next break. She’s in choir and has a recital the next day. Her dad asks for pointers. I laugh out of nervousness because how do I give a little girl advice on the music business as a singer. Speak my truth. It’s very hard to make a living in the music business. If you’re singing with a choir you have to blend in. That’s the job. If you’re singing as a solo artist, stand out. That’s your job. Have a voice that’s recognizable. Don’t try to sound like someone else because we already have them
in the world.
Second thing a Veteran comes up to the stage with a request. He starts crying and telling us he lost one of his brothers today. Oh my, this is during our set. He asked for a song we didn’t know. We came up with an alternate that we hoped helped him a little. During break I went and hung out with him and his wife to hear their story. She told me the song was perfect.
We appreciate our Vets and what they do. We appreciate little girls and good dads who encourage singing.
Last night was not about our band playing music. It was about music touching lives through us. So if you ask me why I do it. I do it for them.
