I Want To Be Honest and as God as my witness.
My friend Deon actually spoke in this to me on our first comic con together, and it stuck with me ever since and even vividly too til this day, and others advice also grew too it as well, i was down and felt out by the sales i wasn’t getting bc of the high expectations i had and people would give me due to my artistic skills (even though i was bunz compared to my art style now lol)
But eventually i had to understand and the industry or art and business you have to come in with little to low expectations and standards.
Learn to appreciate and grow to the experiences at hand—giving you all to what you love and applying it towards the interactions you’ll be giving and sometimes receive from your peers or potential and returning customers or clients.
So now i keep my head high, if i don’t sale; i network- and if i sale…i still try to network lol because it’s exciting to meet your fellow vendors that likes to share their business or whatever you want to do with the information.
But i want my art to be shared by all. I love to see my work and my teachings reach others, it’s an amazing feeling that i passed on my greatest gifts for those to have and learn. Full time artist is my dream job, making my original work and comics plus helping others fulfill their dreams in art, either it be, comics (characters or covers or color and inks), simple logo designs or drawing their favorite characters or custom work.
I want my art and myself to run on these three principles: truth, integrity and a support system, because i want to be a positive force in my community, i want my art to be for everyone and also still strongly support and encourage African American creativity and hope that people will acknowledge and appreciate the work and not by skin color but by empathy and empowerment to understand another’s identity and culture/ancestry historical experience.
