👩🏼‍⚕️ Training the Healers of Tomorrow, the Army Way

🩺 Fort Bragg’s Womack Army Medical Center welcomed ROTC nursing students for the 29-day Nurse Summer Training Program, offering them a true-to-life look at what it means to be an Army Nurse Corps officer.

📅 The cadets arrived after completing the demanding Cadet Summer Training, ready to put leadership lessons into practice. Instead of simply observing, they were in the thick of patient care — guided by experienced Army nurses and learning the balance between skill, compassion, and military readiness.

🏥 Their days included work in medical-surgical units, the emergency department, intensive care, labor and delivery, and the operating room. They also completed simulation lab training, combat trauma life-support, and specialized sessions with Special Forces medics to prepare for the realities of caring for patients in and out of combat environments.

🚑 A highlight for many was the Tactical Combat Casualty Care course. In realistic field scenarios, cadets treated simulated battlefield injuries, managed evacuation calls, and transported patients to helicopter landing zones while operating as a security-conscious team.

💡 Beyond hands-on care, the cadets worked on a research project aimed at improving pain assessment practices at Womack. Their findings were backed by evidence and personal observations from the hospital floor, showing that they were learning to think like both nurses and leaders.

🤝 Off-duty time helped them build the camaraderie that military life depends on. Whether through workouts, team sports, or meals together, they strengthened connections and gained a better understanding of Army culture — something no classroom can fully teach.

🩹 For many, it was the first time performing procedures such as IV insertions, administering medications, and assisting in trauma care. These milestones gave them the confidence and readiness to take the next steps in their careers, knowing they’re prepared to serve wherever the Army calls.

🎒 Fort Bragg Ready for a Safe & Successful School Year

🫡 FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Students across Fort Bragg, including the pictured Shughart Middle School and Bowley Elementary, return on August 18. The Fort Bragg Department of Emergency Services and the Department of Defense Education Activity are working together to protect students, support families, and set kids up for success.

🚦 New Speeding Rules on Post
Military police are stepping up enforcement in school zones and across the installation:
✅ 15 mph over the limit – 30-day loss of on-post driving privileges
✅ Second offense in 1 year – 6-month suspension
✅ Third offense in 2 years – 1-year suspension
✅ Driving 81+ mph anywhere on post – automatic 1-year suspension
✅ Service Members caught driving while suspended – 5-year suspension
✅ Civilians caught driving while suspended – 2-year suspension

🚸 Safety for Students Walking or Biking
Families should review these tips with children:
✅ Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible
✅ Walk facing traffic if no sidewalk is available
✅ Look left, right, left before crossing
✅ Wear helmets when biking
✅ Ride bikes in the same direction as traffic

🚌 School Bus Laws in North Carolina
When a school bus is stopped with red lights flashing and stop arm extended:
✅ Two-lane roads – all traffic must stop
✅ Two-lane with center turn lane – all traffic must stop
✅ Four-lane without median – all traffic must stop
✅ Divided highway or four-lane with median – only traffic following the bus must stop
Drivers must remain stopped until the stop arm retracts, red lights turn off, and the bus moves again.

📚 DoDEA Blueprint for Excellence
The five-year plan focuses on:
✅ Student learning and achievement
✅ Teacher training and resources
✅ Communication with families
✅ Safe and responsible technology use

❤️ Fort Bragg families know the mission is about more than academics — it’s about raising strong, smart, and safe kids. Wishing all students the best of luck for the school year ahead.
