Multiple reports indicate the end of an almost two-month wait after the firing of former Head Coach Sam Pittman.

The University of Arkansas is set to hire Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield as the next head coach of the Razorbacks, according to multiple reports. The news was first reported by On3’s Brett McMurphy.

Silverfield, 45, would become 34th head football coach in the history of Arkansas’ football program, taking over after the firing of head coach Sam Pittman on Sept. 28 and for interim head coach Bobby Petrino.

Silverfield was an assistant at Memphis from 2016-20 before landing the head coaching job in the land of the Delta Blues. Prior to Memphis, Silverfield was an assistant at Arizona State and Toledo, also enjoying a six-season stint as an assistant with the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings.

Silverfield boasts a 50-25 record at Memphis, including a 10-win season in 2023 and an 11-win campaign in 2024. Memphis went 8-4 in the 2025 regular season, including a 32-31 come from behind win over Arkansas on Sept. 20.
