A win for conservation in Fayetteville 🌿
SCT has successfully relocated 100+ Pink Lady’s Slipper orchids discovered along the future City Center Parkway to a nearby SCT-private owned preserve, protecting them ahead of development.

A year in the making, and a strong example of progress + preservation working together.

Big news from Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary ! 🚨🐦

A remarkable and previously undocumented bird has been spotted at the sanctuary, and it’s already generating excitement. With its unusual coloration, subtle crest, and distinctive field markings, this bird doesn’t match any commonly recorded species for our region. It was observed perched along the lakeshore exhibiting classic flycatching behavior before quickly disappearing back into the trees.

If confirmed, this could represent a significant new discovery and a major moment for Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary. The proposed name for this unique visitor is the Sams Lake Velvet Flycatcher. Unique sightings like this are incredibly rare, and the possibility of a new species right here in our community is something truly special. Visitors are encouraged to keep an eye out during their next walk — you never know what you might see!
