The ECS Publishing family and the broader church music community mourn the passing of Fr. James Chepponis. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and with his parish and colleagues. Fr. Jim was a talented musician, an avowed liturgist, and a prolific composer who had a tremendous impact on Catholic liturgical music for several decades. He had particular impact on diocesan liturgies, both in his home diocese of Pittsburgh and beyond—including composing “Festival Alleluia” and other pieces for papal liturgies. His passion for congregational song was the driving force behind his compositions, and he was eager to share that passion and encouragement with colleagues via the many workshops he presented throughout the country. Fr. Jim was a delight to work with, and we will miss him greatly.
