ECS Publishing Group was formed in 2014, when Mark and Ginny Lawson of MorningStar Music purchased ECS Publishing Corporation and moved operations from Boston to St. Publications span all genres of classical and sacred music, with a specialty in choral music.

Lisa DeSpain has been awarded one of Opera America's 2026 Grants for Women Composers — up to $50,000 toward a new commission at Opera Memphis.

The new opera, Catalogue Gurl, sets a libretto by Jerre Dye and follows a man reminiscing about the Sears Wish Book and a childhood desire for a doll named Simone. The grant is part of $135,000 distributed across seven opera companies through the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.

DeSpain (.despain.359) is part of E. C. Schirmer's opera roster alongside Tom Cipullo and others building new work for the stage.

Washington National Opera closed its run of Robert Ward's The Crucible at Lisner Auditorium to a trio of reviews this spring — BroadwayWorld, Opera Wire, and a nationally syndicated piece via MSN.

The critical consensus: a technically superb ensemble working inside a tightly compressed two-act format. As BroadwayWorld's Laurie Sara Oliver wrote, "The whole point, and what makes it so impactful, is that this unbelievable story happened in real life."

Daniel Slatkin has two works in the E. C. Schirmer Classical catalog right now — a symphonic space odyssey and a baseball-themed fanfare written for Leonard Slatkin's 80th birthday.

Grand Slam Fanfare, commissioned by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, evokes what Slatkin calls "music that might be heard in a ballpark" — concert hall writing built around a baseball bat as an orchestral instrument. It premiered with the SLSO in October 2024.

Voyager 130, the larger statement work, traces the Voyager spacecraft's journey and has now been performed by the National Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and the LA Phil.

Leonard Slatkin has now conducted the same fourteen-minute orchestral work with four different orchestras in a single season.

Daniel Slatkin's Voyager 130 premiered with the National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin in September 2024. Since then, the same conductor has brought it back three more times: with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. When the LA Phil's music library booked the piece, they specifically requested the same marked parts used in the St. Louis performance.

That's the kind of repeat adoption that's rare for a new orchestral work — one conductor, four orchestras, inside a single season.

Voyager 130 traces the Voyager spacecraft's mission and threads Beethoven's Cavatina from the Golden Record through the orchestration. Full score and rental parts are available now.
