First Baptist to honor military,
first responders on Sunday

This Sunday morning, First Baptist Church will once again conduct its annual Memorial Day worship service, beginning at 11 a.m, The service will be held in the sanctuary. First Baptist is located at 402 S. Merrimac Dr.
Led by the Sanctuary Choir, as well as soloists Trey Luckie and Amanda Roberts, this is a special tradition that the church has celebrated for the past 31 years. A special song, “Blades of Grass and Pure White Stones” will be performed to honor those we salute on Memorial Day.
In addition, each year the church recognizes past and present military personnel
(Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine and Coast Guard) and their families, as
well as first responders, which will include the police
department, the fire departments, the sheriff’s department and
EMS/medical personnel.
During the service, flags will be presented, at which time these groups of heroes will be asked to stand so those attending can show their deep appreciation for all these individuals have done and continue to do.
In addition, all the war-time flags, along with the MIA/POW flag, will
be presented. The 911 flag will also be included in the service.
Anyone who is a first responder and is on call but wishes to attend is more than welcome. Wear uniforms, if possible.
Pastor Jerry Mahan, Minister of Music Blane Jacobs and the entire
congregation of the First Baptist Church invite the Fitzgerald
community to join them for this special worship service.
Anyone who has questions should call the church at 423-4367.

We have been asked to post this to help get the word out to people in rural Coffee County.

FEMA’s next housing resource fair will be held at The Atrium at 114 N. Peterson Ave. in downtown Douglas. This location will be open this Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The goal is to connect eligible survivors with affordable housing and helping them towards recovery. Here they will meet with local housing organizations, landlords and property owners, the Small Business Administration and much more. “As Georgians continue to recover, we just want them to know that we are here for them, and that they are not alone throughout their recovery journey. We hope to see survivors who may need assistance walk through these doors and get the help that they may need,” says James Wood of FEMA.
