Sometimes we forget that students are a part of the food vulnerable.

A pantry was started at NAU called Louie's Cupboard. They come and pick up food from us as an agency that then gets put on shelves for students to pick out what they want or need at no cost. How perfect is that? We can all agree that school isn't cheap and neither is the cost of living. We are proud to be able to be a part of this program.

Please share this. We have met students that have no idea this exists and it's so important.

I am deeply concerned about the practice of "Dry Needling" discussed in a prior post which is a renamed technique of acupuncture that avoids the training required for safe practice. The American Academy of Medical Acupuncturists have stated that it is a dangerous practice. See their position paper See also which compares the training of needling among various practitioners. Most PTs have only a weekend course in needling, as compared to 300-2000 hours by other physicians and acupuncturists.

There has been an increase in the incidences of pneumothorax and spinal injury throughout the United States due to dry needling by PTs. We appreciate the interest in their wanting to do needling, because it is very effective, but there needs to be more training in order to safely practice. Also, to be clear, Licensed Acupuncturists study both the western biomedical model approach as well as the long-tested Asian medical theories behind the practice of needling. To blindly needle without sufficient understanding of both medical theories can actually create harm. Thus it is encouraged that any medical provider seeking to needle to get at least 1500 hours for non-physicians. (The World Health
Organization (WHO) recommends that medical doctors who wish to use acupuncture as a technique in their clinical work have a minimum of 200 hours of training. For a full course of training, WHO recommends 1,500 hours.)
