Hats off to Gunner Beckham, an 8th grader from Flaherty, for finishing the three day Derby City Showdown High School Rodeo with a first place finish today in chute do***ng. Is it perfect? No, but what is. As the largest employer in our county and steward of thousands of children, the Meade County School District and it’s employees make me proud to be an alumni, father and member of GreenWave Nation, each and every day!!! With thousands of students, employees, families and tough decisions interacting with each other on a daily basis, it is all too easy to laser focus in on one certain issue or instance of disagreement and bash the institution as a whole, but I dare you to find a more perfect alternative. As an alumni, father and journalistic watchdog for the past four years, I thank the good Lord each and everyday that He chose for me, and now my son, to sprout, grow and flourish right here in the middle of GreenWave Nation. The only people who have never made an unpopular decision are those who have never made a decision for someone other than themselves. So from the board of education to the boiler rooms, I thank each and every one of you working for the Meade County School District for the love and dedication you pour into our most priceless commodity each day — our youth! Even on your worst day or those that some may disagree or find fault with, I wouldn’t trade you for all the districts in the world because I know the overwhelming majority show up each day with the desire to be better then you were yesterday and even better tomorrow. Thank you to each and every employee of the district who has shown up each day making a lasting impact on my life in the past and now continue to put a smile on my face each morning when I drop my son off for you to guide, guard, nourish, educate and prepare to take on the world in just a few short years!
