This is one of those little things about patrol that doesn’t get talked about enough.

When you work the same area and repeatedly deal with the same people, you start learning their habits. Apparently, this guy had developed a pretty recognizable one.

To the younger officers: know your beat and know your repeat contacts.

Is this good police work… or was this guy just way too predictable?

Police chiefs can defend Flock cameras.

What they should not do is use fear to pressure citizens into supporting them.

When the argument becomes, “What happens when your loved one goes missing?” or implies serious crimes will go unsolved without this technology, we are no longer addressing the public’s actual concerns.

Flock cameras can be an incredibly useful law enforcement tool.

But telling citizens they need to support them or risk their loved ones not being found?

That is the wrong argument.

If police want public support for powerful technology, earn it through strong policy, training, transparency, auditing, and real accountability.

You can believe Flock has legitimate public safety benefits while also demanding safeguards around how it is used.

I’m not arguing for Flock.

I’m not arguing against Flock.

My position is much simpler.

If courts allow law enforcement to use technology like this, agencies need to lead with policy, training and accountability before implementation.

When citizens raise concerns, answer them with facts, safeguards and transparency.

Not fear.

Public safety warning or fear tactic?

Police departments should not be using fear to convince citizens that Flock cameras are necessary. If law enforcement wants public support for ALPR technology, the argument should be built on accountability, transparency, strong policy, proper training, and directly addressing the concerns citizens have about how these systems are used.

In this Morning Chat, I’m breaking down why fear-based messaging is the wrong approach, why legitimate concerns about Flock cameras should not be dismissed, and why agencies that want to use powerful technology have an obligation to earn public trust instead of trying to scare people into supporting it.

This is not an anti-Flock argument. It is an argument for responsible implementation, clear safeguards, meaningful oversight, and accountability.

Should This SWAT Officer Be Charged?

A sword-wielding suspect. A prior hostage situation. A lengthy standoff.

Then this SWAT officer arrives and fires within seconds.

The suspect may have been dangerous, but that is not the only question.

What matters is what threat existed when the shots were fired.
