The Courier Newspaper was founded in 1976 by Dr. Avery Aldridge, the late pastor of the Foss Avenue Missionary Baptist church of Flint, Michigan. Dr. J. S. Hopkins, pastor of the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church became the President of the Courier Board of Directors. The inspirations and ideas for the Courier newspaper grew out of the need to provide a voice for the ecumenical community.

The Courier is respected as one of the oldest and most prestigious newspaper in this region, serving this community for over 34 years. The Courier is Published and distributed in the mid-Michigan area. In this electronic age, the Courier continues to offer meaningful dialogue and positive advertisement, which has a strong economic influence in this community in which it serves.
