I believe our tomatoes are pretty much done for the season. Our tiny harvests are starting to look like they did at the very beginning of the season. That being said we have officially hit 645lbs of tomatoes for the year. I really hope we end up hitting 650lbs. We shall see......

Holy Bean Seeds Y'all 🫘

We ordered a whopping 20lbs of green bean seeds this time. We have been going through about 5lbs a year but plan on growing significantly more next year, tho this will still likely last us 2 or 3 years. We love Contender Green Beans and have been growing them for the last 6 years.

It is much cheaper to buy in bulk amounts and several seed companies have said they will be raising their prices next year. If you can I would start filling in your seed collections this year.

Looked what we found growing all over 1 of our tomato beds.

That white growth is saprophytic fungal mycelium. Itsa harmless, beneficial fungus actively breaking down the organic mulch (the wood chips we added to keep soil moist).

These fungi feed strictly on dead carbon material (our wood chipa), not on living plants. Warm August temperatures paired with moisture underneath the plant canopy create ideal conditions for them to thrive. It won't harm our stems or roots. In fact, as it decomposes the mulch, it releases nutrients back into the soil and improves soil structure.

We have found all kinds of great signs from thr soil this year with several different mushrooms growing all over the place and this fungus being at the top of the list. Having the wood chips naturally break down, adding to the soil is amazing!!!!
