Ems Win Streak Breaks The Eugene Emeralds fell 5-4 to the Spokane Indians in a wild finish Tuesday night. Down 3-0, the Ems rallied with four unanswered runs in the 7th and 8th innings, highlighted by a 412-foot solo homer from Cole Foster in his first game back since mid-June. Eugene took a 4-3 lead after a clutch walk and a balk, but in the bottom of the 9th, Spokane drew five straight walks—capped by a walk-off walk—to seal the win. Despite the loss, the Ems remain 13-3 in the second half and hold a 2.5-game lead in the standings.

Despite strong community support and dedicated volunteers, organizers say the rising economic challenges of hosting a major music festival no longer align with their mission of supporting rural development in the Willamette Valley....

Viking Football The Siuslaw Vikings are gearing up for the 2025 football season with high hopes and a strong returning core. Head Coach Sam Johnson says replacing last year’s senior class—led by standouts like Max Reynolds and Joel Sissel—won’t be easy, but the returning talent is promising. Of the 22 starting positions, 17 are filled by returning players, thanks in part to midseason injuries that gave younger athletes valuable reps....

Coast Radio History

Coast Broadcasting was established in 1988 and is the only locally owned fully-independent traditional media serving the central Oregon coast. KCST 106.9 FM and KCFM 1250 AM, 104.1 FM & 103.1 FM in Mapleton are Florence’s only local commercial radio stations.

Coast Broadcasting and its staff are active members in the community. Volunteering, sponsoring and covering local promotions and events. The company and its staff have received multiple community awards including being named Business of the Year twice during its more than 20 years of service in Florence. General Manager Jon Thompson received the state’s most coveted broadcast award in 2017 when the Oregon Association of Broadcasters named him Broadcaster of the Year. The award reflects the efforts of both management and staff to actively serve Florence and the surrounding area as a true community radio station.
