The permanent display of police officers’ names and service numbers on Kenya’s new uniforms is a simple but powerful step toward greater accountability, transparency and public trust.

It is equally encouraging to see the new General Duty uniform include a dedicated maternity option for pregnant female officers. Recognising the needs of women in the police service is an important step toward a more inclusive and supportive workplace.

The redesigned uniform, unveiled by President William Ruto, features a light sky-blue shirt, deep navy-blue trousers, a navy beret or peak cap, and black service boots.

Thinking about police officers in maternity and designing uniforms that accommodate them comfortably and professionally is a welcome move. Small details like these can make a meaningful difference in how we support and value those who serve.
