Pollinators, such as bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and bats, play a key role in transferring pollen from plant to plant. However, in recent decades, pollinator populations have declined due to habitat loss, pesticide use and climate change.
Types of Pollinators:
- Bees (Apidae): they are the most effective and important pollinators.
- Butterflies (Lepidoptera): They are responsible for pollinating plants with large fragrant flowers.
- Hummingbirds (Trochilidae): They pollinate plants that have tubular flowers, rich in nectar.
- Bats (Chiroptera): They also pollinate large fragrant flowers, especially in tropical America.
Plants to Attract Pollinators to Your Garden or Garden:
- Sunflower flowers (Helianthus annuus): attract bees and butterflies.
- Zinnia flowers (Zinnia spp. ): they are magnet for butterflies and hummingbirds.
- Lavender flowers (Lavender spp. ): they attract both bees and butterflies.
- Calendula flowers (Calendula officinalis): love bees and butterflies.
- Trumpet flowers (Campsis radicans): They are a magnet for hummingbirds.
Tips to Attract Pollinators to Your Orchard or Garden:
- Plant a variety of flowers that attract the attention of different types of pollinators.
- Avoid the use of pesticides and herbicides that can harm these living beings.
- Provide a water source and places where pollinators can rest and find shelter.
- Create a diverse and complex habitat that includes trees, bushes and flowers
