Anyone else cursed with super sensitive tattoo skin? 😭

I think I’m looking for a support group in the comments at this point lol. I have five tattoos now, and every single session so far my skin gets SO red, angry, and swollen. The attached photo is from my forearm tattoo last year, and I nearly tapped out around the 2.5 hour mark because it started hurting so much.

The healing process was rough too, but I was really careful with keeping it clean and moisturized, and thankfully it healed really nicely in the end. So it’s not that the tattoos turn out badly — it’s just that my skin acts like it’s being personally attacked the entire time. 😅

Anyone else deal with this kind of intense redness/swelling during sessions? It’s made me hesitant to keep getting tattooed even though I really want more. I remember walking out of the shop feeling like my arm was literally on fire, even though my artist did a great job and I’d love to go back once I get over the anxiety.

Please tell me I’m not the only one with dramatic skin that makes every tattoo feel like a medical event lol.

Of course I did this… now how do I cover it after the relationship ran its course? 😭

Yeah, I know. I fully deserve whatever roasting I get for this one. Past me really said “this is forever” with way too much confidence, and now the relationship has very much run its course while the tattoo is still here clocking in every day like it pays rent.

I’m genuinely looking for ideas on what to do next. Would this be better as a cover-up, or should I lean into it and build out some fun full-knuckle design around it? I’m open to bold, weird, funny, traditional, blackwork, symbols, little fillers — basically anything that makes this feel intentional instead of like relationship evidence. 😅

Tattoo artists or anyone who’s covered hand/knuckle tattoos before, what would actually work here without turning it into a muddy mess? Thanks in advance — and yes, I already know I played myself.

Annnnd my body rejected THIS red too 😭🌹

Got this whole rose done in one sitting and now I’m dealing with cellulitis. So instead of just enjoying my new tattoo, I’m over here swollen, sore, stressed, and fighting for my life emotionally. 😭

The tattoo itself is gorgeous and I love the idea so much — big red rose, deep shading, water droplets, all the dramatic pretty details. But my skin apparently saw all that red ink and said, “Absolutely not today.”

It’s angry, irritated, and just not healing the way I hoped. I knew red ink could be risky for some people, but I was really hoping I would not be one of them. Joke’s on me, apparently. 🫠

Has anyone else had issues with red ink or cellulitis after a big color piece? Did you ever try red again, or did you just accept that your body has permanent beef with that pigment?

I love the tattoo, but this healing process is making me regret having skin at all. 😭🌹

Hand tattoo advice — how do I keep this from healing blurry or messy? 😅

I got a tattoo I’ve wanted for a long time, but this is my first hand/finger tattoo, so I’m a little nervous about the healing process. I knew going into it that hand tattoos can be annoying to heal and don’t always hold ink perfectly, but now that it’s actually on me I really want to do everything I can to help it heal clean.

I’m especially worried about the finger part turning blurry, patchy, or messy looking since hands move so much, get washed constantly, and rub against everything. I know some fading is probably normal with this placement, but I’d love more in-depth advice from people who’ve healed hand tattoos before.

What helped yours heal the best? Any tips for washing, moisturizing, protecting it at work, avoiding overdoing it, or keeping the lines as clean as possible? Thanks! 😅

Tattoo regret — what would you do? Laser? Cover-up? 😭

TL;DR: I got a large Led Zeppelin tribute tattoo on my arm and I seriously regret it. Now I’m trying to figure out the smartest next step.

I have quite a few tattoos and generally love tattoos, but these two on my arm are my biggest pieces. Most of my smaller ones are easy to hide with a T-shirt, but this one is not.

I also don’t like showing tattoos at work, which is why I basically never wear short sleeves there. I know that probably sounds ridiculous, but at least my job is the type where button-up shirts are normal and expected, so I can get away with it. Still, I would love to be able to wear a polo shirt once in a while without instantly feeling self-conscious.

The big Zeppelin piece was supposed to be a tribute to Led Zeppelin, but honestly? It has become one of my biggest tattoo regrets. I don’t like the size, I don’t like the placement, and I don’t even really like the shape of it anymore.

So now I’m stuck wondering what the best option is.

Would you try laser first? I’m open to it, but I’m not sure how well it would fade since there’s yellow and cerulean/blue in it.

Or would you go straight for a cover-up? I was thinking maybe something floral in blackwork, but I don’t know if that would realistically cover it or if I’d need laser sessions first to lighten it.

I’m honestly open to anything at this point — laser, cover-up ideas, black floral work, rework suggestions, whatever.

What would you do if this was on your arm? 😬

Not my first tattoo and the shop is closed… does this look infected? 😭

The first two pics are from yesterday and the last three are from today. I got the tattoo Friday night, and while this definitely isn’t my first tattoo, I’ve never had one react like this before. It’s also not my first tattoo from this shop/artist, which is why I’m extra confused.

At first I thought it was just bruising because it was pretty swollen last night, but the swelling has gone down and now the redness seems to be spreading. So now I’m thinking it’s definitely not just bruising. The weird part is that the flower area looks totally fine, but the hand portion is looking very much not okay. 😅

For context, the flower and blackberries were a cover-up, and the hand was a touch-up done at the same shop but by a different artist last time. Not sure if that matters, but I figured I’d mention it.

Since the shop is closed, I’m trying to figure out if this is something I should be worried worried about, or if it could just be irritation/bruising that will pass. Does this look like infection territory, or am I panicking too early?

Post-divorce finger tattoo… what should I do with this? 😅

So now that I’m divorced, I’m trying to figure out what to do with this little finger tattoo. It’s not huge or dramatic, but because of the placement it still feels tied to that chapter of my life, and now I notice it way more than I used to.

Part of me thinks I should leave it alone because it’s small and kind of cute on its own, but another part of me wants to either cover it, rework it, or turn it into something that feels more like me now instead of a reminder of the past.

Over-moisturized or allergic reaction? Day 12 and it itches SO bad 😭

I’m on day 12 of healing this tattoo and I’m starting to get worried because it’s extremely itchy. I’ve been washing with non-scented soap and using CeraVe unscented moisturizer, so I thought I was keeping things pretty simple, but now I can’t tell if I’m over-moisturizing it or if my skin is reacting to something.

It doesn’t feel like the normal light itching I’ve had with other tattoos — this is way more annoying and intense. I’m trying not to scratch it, but I keep staring at it wondering if the skin is just dry/irritated, if I’ve been putting on too much moisturizer, or if this is some kind of allergic reaction.

Is this possibly infected, or am I panicking because it’s a big color piece? 😭

Hey everyone, I’m new to Reddit but I really need some advice. I have about 4 other tattoos and they’re all color pieces — green, pink, red, blue — and I’ve never really had an issue like this before.

I got this tattoo on the 29th and it’s now the 31st, so it’s still very fresh. It’s also a BIG piece with a lot packed into it, so I know some redness, swelling, and soreness can be normal. But my arm is pretty red and swollen, and it’s sore when I lift it, so now I’m starting to worry it could be infected.

I was briefly exposed to the sun just walking to and from the car, nothing major. When I came back inside, the tattoo felt hot, so I applied a cool damp cloth and that helped. It no longer feels hot, and I don’t have any other symptoms, but the redness is mostly on one side of my arm, not the other.
