ABOUT THE CHRONICLE: Every community needs a good source of local news. Historically, Homewood and Flossmoor enjoyed coverage by the local newspapers. About 10 years go local media organizations began shifting their attention elsewhere, leaving

our vibrant community without adequate news coverage. Our focus is on Homewood and Flossmoor, providing news by, about, and for the H-F community. Anyone interested in joining the team should write to [email protected].

Looks like a great way to get prepared. During an emergency is a little late.

The Village of Homewood is inviting residents ages 18 and older to take part in our new Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program, hosted in partnership with FEMA.

CERT training equips everyday residents with the skills needed to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors in the critical moments following a disaster when professional responders may be delayed.

Participants will learn hands-on emergency preparedness, disaster response, and life-saving techniques that can make a real difference in our community.

Training details:

Begins: Monday, January 26, 2026
Time: 6–9 p.m.
Duration: Weekly sessions through March 21, 2026
Finale: A full-scale disaster simulation that puts your training into action

No prior experience is required. We are looking for just a willingness to learn, serve, and strengthen Homewood’s resilience. Whether you want to be better prepared for emergencies at home or play an active role in helping others during a crisis, CERT offers practical skills, teamwork, and a meaningful way to give back.

Spots are limited (only a few spots remain). Join us and help make Homewood a safer, more prepared community.
