So I just upgraded my computer and a bunch of software that I've been using over the years. One of the plug-in updates included a new AI feature. I tried the AI master assistant on 3 records... a jug band record, and old-time stringband trio, and a solo acoustic guitar project. I'm delighted to report that it sounded terrible on all 3, and remind you that I am here to do low impact natural sounding mastering on your trad and trad adjacent records. I am a human, and have spent my life listening to and studying this music and the art of recording and presenting it. Give me a shout if you want a balanced, natural, non squashed medium volume master for your recordings for digital, vinyl, or cassette release!

It was so deeply satisfying and such an honor to mix front of house and record The Shoats at Clifftop this year! This band of youngsters is so talented and tasteful. They're great players, singers and arrangers, and they all have great tone and timing. To my ear, they've done something very rare, which is to create something deeply connected to the tradition while making it their own and bringing it into the present moment. They've created something powerful, moving and magical. This is just a little sneak preview of the concert - their take on the traditional song "undone in sorrow" with my mix sync'ed with some phone footage I grabbed from the Y_tubes. The whole recording is great so stay tuned to the band's social media for possible future releases.
