CELEBRATING AMERICA: Celebrate America on June 26. The Baldwin County, AL Commission, in partnership with the City of Daphne, Alabama - "The Jubilee City", invites the public to attend the America 250 Celebration on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Daphne Civic Center.

The America 250 Celebration on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Daphne Civic Center. patriotism with live entertainment, family activities, local organizations and community fellowship. The Alabama Army National Guard Band selected Baldwin County to host one of the band’s community performances across the state while they are conducting annual drill activities.

The evening will feature a special performance by the Alabama Army National Guard Band, presenting a musical journey through American history and patriotic traditions. Guests can also enjoy food trucks, children’s activities, vendor booths, giveaways, senior activities, pet adoptions, and community exhibits.

The event will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daphne Civic Center, located at 2603 U.S. Highway 98, Daphne, Alabama 36526. The America 250 Celebration is part of nationwide efforts recognizing the upcoming 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in 2026. Admission is free and open to the public.

Florida lawmakers voted today to put a property tax elimination plan before voters this November as a proposed constitutional amendment.

The measure passed 75-26 in the House and 30-9 in the Senate.

Under the proposal:

🟢 Property taxes that fund public schools would remain in place.

🟢 Local offices such as clerks of court and supervisors of elections would continue receiving funding through property taxes.

🟢 The homestead exemption would increase from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and then to $250,000 in 2028.

🟢 Lawmakers would be required to develop a path toward raising the exemption to $500,000 and beyond.

The amendment would need approval from at least 60% of voters to be added to the Florida Constitution.

Austal USA celebrated the opening of a massive new submarine manufacturing facility Thursday in Mobile.

Vice Adm. Robert Gaucher said that by this time next year, with MMF3 fully operational, he expects Austal USA to have “over 1,200 employees working across three shifts,” exclusively on submarine work. And he had a specific challenge for Austal USA leadership.

“I know you’ve committed to me at least 660,000 hours of production by the end of this year,” he said. “But what I really want is you to exceed that. Hit the target of 880,000 [hours] in 2026 and more than double that in 2027. I’ll be tracking it personally each week.”

Austal USA President Gene Miller said the shipyard has delivered three submarine modules and has eight more in the works. MMF3 represents an investment of “about a half a billion dollars,” he said, and will dramatically accelerate production.

“We recognize that submarine manufacturing is one of the nation’s highest priorities,” Miller said. “And we’re just very excited to be part of supporting our country in increasing that manufacturing capability.”

Austal USA’s workforce currently stands at around 3,500 employees, Miller said. The ramp-up of work in MMF3 will be followed by the addition of another giant facility known as Final Assembly 2, where surface ships will be assembled and launched.

“Over the next three years, we’re looking to get to between 5,500 and 6,000 people,” he said.
