Well the first chick is still under Piglet, but we noticed an egg pushed out from the nest. It still had hard shell top and bottom but just membrane around the middle (like the hen had walked on it?). I could see a little beak pipped out, but no movement. This little one was inside 😢. We did warm her but never got movement or a heartbeat. Ruth named her Blue Jay. This part sucks.

We heard a loud peeping from the coop but didn’t see a chick under Piglet, just a hatched egg. Found the chick in the middle of the coop yelling and neither momma was feeling warm and snuggly. Both of these two hens sat on the eggs to hatch them 🤦‍♀️. I took it around to tuck under Piglet’s bum and she seems to have accepted it. Here’s hoping the others hatch out better.

What is a skill that you are proud that you have mastered?

Ruth fits through the goat gate perfectly 😆 This way the goats can help eat down the grass and weeds on the track around the pony pasture but they still have access the the shelter. Don’t worry we do open it up sometimes so the ponies get to snack on it occasionally, but too much is not good for these shorties.

PIGLET! This broody girl has got to learn to keep her fluffy feathered butt ON her nest. Your vacation days are over little momma! At least it is ridiculously hot so the eggs seem to be developing despite her questionable mothering skills.

I’m trying to shape this plug to seal off the top of the igloo so it doesn’t let rain in. We got it used and it was plugged with something that lasted about 5 seconds with the goats. Lily is …helping. Let me see your “helpers”!
