This is a neat one, so its been destroyed and rebuilt a couple of times due to being destroyed by both weather and war damage. The current lighthouse was built in 1864 and is on the Lighthouse Doomsday List. This is the Sand Island Lighthouse standing at 125 focal feet tall. It is one of the most endangered lighthouses in the country, it was damaged in 2004 & 2005 by hurricanes, further delaying restoration attempts, despite having 1.4 million yards of sand dredged around her base in 2011.

Despite all that it truly is a very beautiful light, and she still stands tall near Fort Morgan, which ill also share with you guys once I do more research on it 😅

The USS Alabama was launched in 1942, hull -60, she was the fourth and final member of the South Dakota class of fast battleships. She comes in at 680 feet long and carrying 406mm guns, she was taken out of service in 1947 after serving in many operations. In 1962 she was stricken from the naval reserve vessel list, she had a campaign for her to save her from the breakers yard and was later preserved as a museum ship where she sits today.

Ok now I'm happy, getting to choose your lighting makes a huge difference, it'll be super sad to see this queen sail off...

In my travels around mobile the other day I got to get some pics of this pretty lady before she gets sunk. Their busy getting her the rest of the way already, I followed her the whole way down here on her journey from Philly. You can't save them all, but its sad to see such a historic, record holder fade.

Well after finishing the rest of my drive yesterday I decided to go do some fun stuff, went and took a tour of the Uss Alabama in Mobile. I must say what a ship, truly gives you an appreciation for what those men and women went through. What an impressive ship for sure!
