Hartford Studios employs the Peterson 420 strobe tuner to dial in the instruments intonation at the instrument bridge prior to recording as a free service to clients recording at the studio. This is a process generally done by a luthier to insure correct tonality across the spectrum at the beginning of a project.
The 420 strobe system works by comparing the incoming frequency against a reference. When the two frequencies differ, the strobe pattern moves; as they converge, the movement slows. When the pattern stops, you’ve essentially reached frequency lock.
