Abbreviations: ch (chain), sc (single crochet), inc (increase), dec (decrease), sl st (slip stitch), st (stitch)

Mama Head

Artisan’s Note: Work in continuous rounds. We will shape the delicate curve of her snout first, then expand outward to give her those beautifully wide, round cheeks.

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

R2: inc x 6 (12)

R3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)

R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)

R10: (6 sc, inc) x 6 (48)

R11: (7 sc, inc) x 6 (54)

R12-18: 54 sc (54)

Artisan's Note: Secure the 18mm safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9. Keep them wide apart to capture that gaze of pure innocence.

R20: (6 sc, dec) x 6 (42)

R21: (5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)

R22: (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)

R23: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)

R24: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)

R25: (sc, dec) x 6 (12)

R26: dec x 6 (6). Fasten off and weave in the end.

Mama Ears

Artisan's Note: We create a double-layered ear for structural integrity, ensuring they stand tall and proud without wires.

Cream Inner Ear (Make 2): Ch 9. sc in 2nd ch from hook, 6 sc, 3 sc in last ch. Turn to work down the opposite side of the chain: 7 sc (17). Fasten off.

Tan Outer Ear (Make 2): Repeat the instructions for the Cream Inner Ear. Do not fasten off.

Place the Cream piece against the Tan piece. Insert your hook through both layers and sc evenly around the entire edge to join them together. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

R3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)

R4-6: 18 sc (18)

Little Joey Details

Ears (Make 2): Ch 3. sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in the last ch. Fasten off and sew to the top of the Joey's head.

Arms (Make 2): Ch 4. sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc. Fasten off and attach to the sides of the Joey's body.

Assembly & Final Touches

➑️ Secure the Mama’s head directly onto the open neck of her body. Take your time, adding a final pinch of stuffing before pulling the stitches completely closed.

➑️ Pinch the base of the large ears slightly, then sew them to the upper sides of the head.

➑️ Position the Cream belly pouch on her lower front. Sew only the sides and the bottom curve securely to the body, leaving the top straight edge completely open.

➑️ Attach the thick legs to the lower side-front of the body so she can sit upright.

➑️ Sew the tail directly onto the lower back. Test her balance on a flat surface before tying off the yarn.

➑️ Attach the arms neatly just above the pouch line.

➑️ Using black cotton yarn, embroider
a thick, triangular nose on her snout and two gentle, downward-sloping eyebrows to soften her expression. Repeat a tiny nose on the Joey.

➑️ Tuck the little Joey safely inside his mother's pouch!
