I’m a 34-year-old single dad to twin girls. Their mom left when they were babies, so I’ve been handling everything alone. This year was hard—daycare closed, pay cut, sick mom, rent hike, and a broken washer. I hand-washed clothes for days. While buying a used washer, a kind woman told me, “You’re doing a good job.” The washer didn’t work, but inside I found a box with a note: “For you and your children. – M.” My hands shook opening it.
