10 years in North Carolina and 8 summers. (-1 for the sandbox and -1 for retirement eurotrip) I’m excited to head north and closer to home, but I won’t lie and say that I’m not gonna miss the southern summers.

Egirl sweeps the Ivy League
From almost no formal schooling and having to drop out of high school so I could work, to having the privilege of panicking over which Ivy League institution to attend.
First generation college student, immigrant, low-income background, GED kid. There was absolutely nothing in my background that would ever hint that this could be a possibility for me. But I am extremely proud to announce that I have committed to attend Princeton University on a full ride scholarship this faIl. I have been granted funding to continue my studies in the humanities for three years, with the opportunity to extend to a fourth, without using my G.I. Bill.
I chose Princeton because of their unwavering support for veterans as well as their original research and thesis requirement. They also have upheld high academic standards and rigor, any anyone who knows me, knows that I chase a challenge.

Sorry for ghosting the internet for the least few years. This is what I was working on 👀🥳

Guess I’m going to learn to like the color orange. 🐅

The decision to start over in an entirely new discipline and go back to school was terrifying. My first traditional experience in college had one purpose: get a degree with the highest chance of creating a stable life for me and my family. 16 years old me decided that engineering was that path and hated every second before I ran off to join the army. Now have the freedom to chase what love and learn just for the joy of it.
The first step towards a shot at some of the best humanities programs in the country was proving myself by going to my local community college and getting an Associates of Arts. (The grades I had while working on my BSE were….uh…yikes)
Today I graduated with a perfect 4.0 and offers from several Ivy League institutions and some of the best research universities in the country (and the world). I committed to my first choice today and I’ll let you know where I’m headed soon. I’m just taking this moment to celebrate that my crazy plan actually worked 🥳
Also giant shout out to my partner for putting up with the last two years of me dedicating every waking moment to this application process and dealing me constantly freaking out thinking I was going to fail every little test. Thank you for the reassurance and talking me off a ledge every final season. And then not saying too many “I told you so” when I inevitably got great grades every time.😂🫶🏻
