This month felt like it was a year long in the best way (mostly) here’s the stats:

☼ Photos Taken: an insane amount

☼ Soundtrack of the Month: Rushmere by Mumford & Sons

☼ Tried Something New & Survived: An all girls rave

☼ Biggest Win: Didn’t crash out when life ✨lifed✨

☼ Hyper fixation Food: Burrito Bowls (out of survival, I think I had 15+ this month)

☼ Fave Outing: The Ojo Caliente hot springs in Santa Fe

☼ Little Joys: Breakfast outside in the cool weather, lots of time behind the camera, finding out my partner photog is having a bb, seeing my nephews irl, being busy with aligned work!!!

What’s the worst Instagram advice you’ve ever gotten? Drop it in the comments, let’s scream about it together.

Because let’s be real…Instagram is full of advice that makes you feel like you’re already doing everything wrong before you even start.

COOL.

And I know how easy it is to internalize that.

You scroll past one too many posts that say “find your niche” or “steal my exact viral strategy” and suddenly you’re questioning everything, convinced there’s a secret formula you somehow missed.

But here’s the truth: there’s no single right way.

What works for someone else might never work for you and that’s not failure, that’s just… being a different human with a different business.

(Which is kinda the whole entire point!?)

So if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, second-guessing every move, or quietly screaming at your phone, you’re not alone.

The advice isn’t always wrong, but without context it’s just noise.

You don’t need more noise. You need clarity, confidence, and a plan that actually fits you.

That’s the work we do together in Sunny Sessions. No vague buzzwords, no “just go viral.” Real strategy, real support, real alignment.

Most people only put their first + last name in that spot and that’s it.

The problem? Your name field is one of the places Instagram actually uses for search results.

If your ideal client is typing “Colorado
wedding photographer” or “brand designer” into the search bar, and your profile just says “Ashley Smith,” you’re invisible.

HOW TO FIX IT ⬇️

— Think about the keywords your dream client would search for

— Add those into your name field alongside your name (or instead of it)

— Keep it broad enough that it’s searchable, but clear enough that they instantly know what you do

Your name field isn’t just your name it’s prime real estate for being found. Use it well.

It’s easy to think success is just numbers the followers, the revenue, the “look how busy I am” calendar.

But I’ve learned you can hit every goal on paper and still feel completely drained living it. AWESOME.

After my sabbatical last year (which, yes, I’ve made my whole personality), I had to get clear on what actually tells me I’m doing the right work and building a life I want to keep living.

Now, alongside the numbers, I track the things that don’t fit in into graphs and dollar signs: joy, alignment, creativity, contentment… the kind of “metrics” that catch burnout before it hits and remind me why I started in the first place.

Defining success for myself has made it easier to spot aligned opportunities, say no without guilt, and actually enjoy both work and life outside of it.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know how much I believe in the phrase, “Taking care of you is taking care of your business” – and that’s exactly what I’m doing.

This year has been full of challenges and significant (yet behind-the-scenes) decisions in my business, leaving me feeling burnt out, confused, and unsure of the next steps.

Instagram is an incredible tool, but I need to step back to figure out how it fits best into my life and business going forward.

This decision wasn’t easy, and I’ve been intentionally avoiding it because I’m going to miss you all so much! This will be the longest I’ve ever been away from IG.

Practice makes progress.

This is a hard concept for many of us, right?

I am a recovering perfectionist who obsesses over meeting an unspoken standard that I only have set for myself. But, unfortunately, this isn’t too helpful when trying to show up regularly online.

No, this does not mean you shouldn’t put the effort in; it just means that sometimes obsessing over making a post perfect is actually more harmful than helpful.

And if you really think about it, your community doesn’t want perfection from you.

So, post those drafts, leave the carousel up with the minor typo, and just accept that you showed up for yourself and your biz regardless of what that inner critic is saying.
