And this is why we need more upending of the medical dogma surrounding heart disease.

Jane's Story Part II. My husband Randy and I were both so pleased and relieved when we found out that my heart disease had stopped and I was no longer at high risk. Randy asked his doctor if he should get a heart scan too. His doctor said, " Randy, you are the picture of health. You are fit, slender, you exercise daily, eat well, and your cholesterol numbers have always been perfect. Don't waste your time with a heart scan." Then, just a few months later, Randy came home from his usual 6 mile walk, sat down in his chair and died of a sudden heart attack. He had no symptoms. We later learned that his arteries were filled with plaque even though his cholesterol and blood pressure had always been normal. He had no risk factors. How could this have happen to him?
If Tom had just had the heart scan, we would have found his heart issue early enough to do change his outcome. I am still absorbing the the shock and terrible loss, I think I always will. Since his death I have made it my mission to tell people about heart scans. It's pretty simple. You do not know if you have heart disease until you get a heart scan, regardless of what "They" tell you. Take the first step. Visit www.cruxpoint.com

This is true life, important stuff. We need to hear about this more often to motivate people to take the real actions that save lives.

Jane's Story, Part 1. It didn't take much convincing for Jane to realize she was at great risk for a heart attack and get a heart scan. Her father died at 53, one brother died at 51, and another at 59. All from heart attacks. Her first heart scan showed she did have heart disease and a score of 365 which put her 35 points below the severe risk category. Armed with this knowledge, and helped by an informed physician and a husband who was very fit, had a healthy lifestyle, and was a marathon runner, Jane became very proactive in monitoring her own heart heath. Jane was successful in stopping her heart disease and lowering her risk to that of a person her age with a score of zero. But this is not the end of Jane's story. It is Jane who will be telling her husband's story. Stay tuned. In the meantime, check your heart. www.cruxpoint.com

How do you know if you have broken your arm? Do you look at your blood test or do you look at an image of your arm? Sounds obvious, right? Well, apparently things are not that obvious when it comes to heart disease and strokes. If you want accurate answers, know what tools give accurate measures. Here are two screenings that are very often confused, and shouldn't be.

What Are We Measuring And Why? We measure a lot of different things to find out if we have heart disease. Commonly we measure weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and more. How good are these really for determining heart disease? We also have carotid ultrasound screenings and heart scan screenings.....

February Health Screenings are a great way to "know your numbers". Make sure you know what each number is telling you. Join Lindsay and Gary Koyen Ph.D., Research Scientist and Psychologist as they discuss one of the most misunderstood numbers around, cholesterol and its predictability of heart attack risk.

What is the number you really need to accurately predict your heart attack risk? There are several numbers we use, most especially cholesterol numbers. But how much do cholesterol numbers help us predict heart attack risk? Are cholesterol numbers all they are cracked out to be? Join Lindsay and Gary...

7 to 10 times more women die yearly of unsuspected heart disease than breast cancer. Radiologists can see if you might be at risk for heart disease on every mammogram they read. Yet they rarely, if ever, report it to the patient. Many lives could be saved if something was said. Listen to Lindsay and...
