Children's Programming On FCPM

Popular children’s author, Luz Maria Mack, recently gifted FCPM with two hours of animated programming based on her beautiful books. We’re excited to introduce these delightful shows to our FCPM community.

Kids (and grown-ups) can drop in on our cable channels, Fort Collins Comcast 97 and Connexion 22, daily between 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. to watch the shows. The shows are three to five minutes each, and can be viewed in any order. Stay for all or just a few.

All of the shows are also available on-demand on our website. Watch them here. Video on demand is always free and doesn't require a subscription!

Luz’s stories, or cuentos, take a look at everyday life from a kid’s perspective. The stories cover a depth of topics from hair styles, to brushing teeth, to living with a parent who uses a wheelchair. Luz’s beautiful animations are friendly and warm, her writing charming and affirming.

Luz (luzmack.com) is based in the South Bronx. She says, “I create joyful, culturally rich, bilingual stories that celebrate identity, belonging, and empowerment for children—particularly those of Dominican, African American, and multicultural heritage.”

Lighting Basics Class

We will be assessing the many qualities of light and their application regarding filmmaking and content creation. Your lighting environment will always dictate your camera settings, so understanding and controlling this element will allow you to sculpt your image as you see fit.

The word “video” derives from Latin, “video, videre” meaning “to see” and we can’t see without light!

Date: August 29, 2025 Time: 6 - 8 p.m. Class size: Limited from 4 to 6 students.

Cost: $50 for non-members, $25 for FCPM members (Creator level and under), and free for FCPM Producer level members.

Color Temperature of Light in the Kelvin Scale
Outdoor Lighting vs Indoor Lighting
Light Beam Throw Distance + Intensity
Diffusion and Flagging
Lighting Background and Texture
Pulse Wave Modulation (PWM) and Banding
More Light vs More Exposure

Instructor, Chris Winslow

Chris is a Video Producer and Lead Technician for the City of Fort Collins. His work includes live television broadcasting and streaming of multi-camera productions, as well as custom content creation in a variety of formats. He’s been a producer for the past 12 years.

His love of music and photography led him to pursue a self-designed interdisciplinary degree in “Marketing / Photography”. He focused on the fundamentals of image capturing and storytelling, incorporating messaging that highlighted societal trends and personal relationships.

Chris is a long time member of Fort Collins Public Media, and credits the organization for helping enrich his skills, helping him create the unique career path he has today. This class is one way he can give back and pay it forward to other budding filmmakers.
