The National Trust for Historic Preservation filed a lawsuit on Dec. 12 aimed at blocking the construction of the White House ballroom championed by President Donald Trump - and which involved the demolition of the East Wing – alleging that the construction of the ballroom is unlawful and asking the court to halt further construction until it goes through a legally mandated review process.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, names Trump, the National Parks Service and several other administration officials.

The Trump administration has seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, the latest escalation in Washington's pressure campaign against the government of President Nicolás Maduro. The move comes amid a major U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, where U.S. strikes on alleged drug-smuggling boats have killed scores of people and drawn scrutiny from Congress.

Venezuela condemned the seizure as “a brazen robbery and an act of international piracy,” saying Trump has repeatedly signaled an intent to “take Venezuelan oil without paying anything in return” as part of “a deliberate plan to plunder our energy resources.”
