Happy Juneteenth!

Today we honor the legacy of Black freedom, resistance, and joy. At Peaceful Birth Company, we know that birth justice is racial justice—and that the work of liberation must continue in every birthing space.

To our fellow non-Black birth workers: let this day be a reminder to actively dismantle bias in birth, amplify Black voices, and stand in solidarity—not just in words, but in action.

✨ Liberation in birth is liberation in life.

The narrative they’re feeding you is powerful, but it’s wrong. Being in birth work, we see the effects of these actions and it’s costing more lives than you can imagine.

Ask yourself:

- who holds the power to make these decisions?
- does it negatively affect them?
- what’s their motivation?
- who does it disempower?
- who gains power?

Giving people choice, autonomy, and respect is central to our work and these laws / actions are stripping people of those rights.

What is happening in our country is a complete disgrace and we are all complicit in some way. Post in the comments different ways we can make a positive impact!

Such a sweet birth class reunion! 💖 Birth stories were shared, babies played and ate and smiled, yummy treats were enjoyed and connections were made. We love our community!

Today, we wrapped our first week-long intensive doula training for Medicaid doulas. Yay for 15 more soon-to-be-approved Medicaid doulas in Colorado!!! 🎉🎉🎉

This group was sooooooo passionate, enthusiastic, vulnerable, open-minded, and authentically kind. We had trainees from all over Northern Colorado, Fleming, Hayden, Woodland Park, Livermore, and more. Our state is lucky to have each and every one of them!

🌈 MEET THE PBC TEAM 🌈

Meet Kisha!

Kisha is a bright light who brings joy wherever she goes! Dance is her medicine and she’s a pro at using it to facilitate a more enjoyable birth. Fun fact! Katy and Kisha originally met working together at New Belgium Brewing!

❔What’s your favorite thing about being a birth worker?

My favorite thing about birth work is being a part of bridging the gaps between the past, present and future. I get to honor my Ancestral rights to assist in bringing life forward. Along with being a positive energetic catalyst during the birth. As I watch the family lovingly gaze upon the future!

❔What’s a piece of advice you’d give to new parents?

My advice to new parents is to not be afraid to make mistakes. To cherish all the little moments. To build a support team for both the baby and the family. Lastly, always ask questions and advocate for yourself and baby!

❔What’s a fun fact about you?

A fun fact about me is that I call myself “ The Dancing Doula”. Laughter and Movement is how I like to spend my time!!

Meet Abby!

Actually, you probably already have. She’s been a vital piece of PBC since we started our team model in 2021. Abby has done invaluable work in our community and while we’re SO SAD she’s moving to California in July, we’re equally SO EXCITED to see how she grows her impact on birth in Sacramento. They’re lucky to have her!

❔What is your favorite thing about birth work?
My favorite thing about birth work: It’s hard to pick a favorite thing about birth work because I’m enthralled and passionate about so many aspects of this incredible journey! The honor of baring witness to and holding space for one of life’s biggest transformations is unlike anything else. I love supporting birth givers as they unfold and surrender to their own power (each in their own unique way). I love helping families prepare for birth and postpartum and then seeing the tools and knowledge in action. It’s so beautiful and raw and life-changing.

❔What’s a piece of advice you’d give new parents?
Some advice for new parents: Meet each day with open arms. It’s hard not to build too many expectations. You’ll thank yourself for honoring your needs and staying adaptable. Your newborn grows and changes quickly and their needs follow suit! Ride the waves of postpartum like the waves of contractions in labor. Try to stay gentle with yourselves, present with each moment and open to the newness of each day.

❔What’s a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me: I served in AmeriCorps for a year between high school and college! During that time, I lived with my team of 11 in various locations across California, Montana and Oregon. I got to serve communities in a variety of ways including: providing free tax services on Native reservations, building natural playgrounds and nature centers, doing invasive species removal and trail work and tutoring in high school learning centers. It was a life-changing experience!
