CARIBOU VIGIL PLANNED
FOR CHARLIE KIRK
A vigil for Charlie Kirk is scheduled for 6 PM tonight in the Dollar Tree Shopping Center parking lot on Bennet Drive in Caribou.
Kirk, 31, was killed in a political assassination Wednesday in Orem, Utah at a TurningPoint USA event at Utah Valley University. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, of Washington, Utah surrendered to authorities Thursday night after alledgedly confessing to his father, a retired sheriff's deputy - who notified a U.S. Deputy Marshal.
Organizers chose the same location liberal activists used this summer for their protests. The vigil had garnered significant support Friday afternoon on social media pages.
Vigils are being scheduled across the state to honor his memory. Charlie Kirk leaves behind a wife and two small children, who reportedly were present when he was shot dead through the neck by a sniper on a rooftop about 200 yards away.
Friends of the suspect have told the FBI Robinson became politically radicalized in recent months and expressed hatred for Kirk.
President Trump and the Utah Governor said authorities will seek the death penalty for the perpetrator. The Governor thanked the Robinson family at a news conference for turning in their son.
