In our pursuit of fulfilling desires and interests, we often find ourselves in competition, comparing with others either knowingly or unknowingly. This inclination tends to cultivate selfishness, lacking mercy or love for others. However, the key to receiving lies in giving and sharing. Jesus, as our example, achieved Glory by humbling Himself to serve and giving His life out of love and mercy. Love is the path to glory, perfection, and contentment. By prioritizing God's and others' interests over our own, we emulate Jesus' sacrifice, leading to God taking care of our interests. By asking us to prioritize others does not mean God undervalue our own needs or interests but rather He wants us to find and fulfill our purpose and benefit all His promises as we can only find fulfillment [success] and contentment in serving others. Glory is God's reward for sacrifice.

Jesus' descent to Earth was primarily to save us and draw us closer to the eternal nature of God, our Father. As a result, we inherit the eternity of God. However, Jesus did not come solely to give us eternal life; He also came to strengthen us in our earthly existence. In other words, the new life and promises we receive from Jesus are meant to help us navigate life on Earth with power and authority through the spiritual gifts bestowed upon us. We are indeed equipped for eternity, but we are also empowered for our lives on Earth. We derive our legitimacy to use these gifts and walk in that power from the sacrifice of the Cross, as well as the resurrection and ascension of Christ to God. Jesus, as He ascended to the Father, assured us that we can do all that He did and more. Therefore, as Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, we are His ambassadors wielding the same mandate and walking in even greater power than He demonstrated. The spiritual gifts serve as testimonies to God's grace for humanity and reflect Jesus' victory` over death, the tribulations of this world, and the oppression of the devil. We are heirs to the same victory, and its significance is fully realized in our service to others.

After His resurrection, Jesus ascended to the right hand of God, radiating in all His glory. If we truly love Jesus, He and His Father will dwell within us, and we in them. Consequently, we can partake in that same divine glory. However, expressing love for Jesus goes beyond mere words or adhering to what is right in the eyes of God. True love involves dying to oneself while nurturing a pure heart. In doing so, our lives can be concealed in Christ, and we will be granted a new existence, one that mirrors the life of Christ Himself. Our calling extends beyond living the life of Christ; we are also summoned to share that life with others through love, peace, humility, and compassion. When others look upon us, they should see Jesus reflected in our actions. Sharing the life of Jesus implies that the same power that raised Him from the dead is now accessible to us. Consequently, we cannot be victims of sin anymore. By living out Jesus' life, we receive the power to navigate our earthly existence and the promise of glory when Christ appears once more.

This section of James serves as a warning to the rich oppressors, revealing the inherent worthlessness of money in the context of Jesus' return and the Kingdom of God. The issue is not with money itself, as it serves a practical purpose. We are serving a Rich God. Christians require financial resources to lead fulfilling lives and care for their families. Money supports missionaries, and enables ministries to effectively spread the Gospel. The Church, too, relies on money for activities that advance the Kingdom of God. However, James emphasizes that the problem arises when love for money becomes paramount, leading to sin. The corrosion mentioned symbolizes the negative traits of selfishness, hardness of heart, and reluctance to share, resulting in oppression and injustice toward others. Love for money also paves the way for the misuse of wealth. The corrosion and the consequences of hoarding will serve as testimony against the selfish rich. Jesus cautioned against placing too much importance on earthly treasures. He urges believers to store up treasures in heaven, where they are immune to decay and destruction (Matt. 6:19-20). Earthly treasures and wealth are temporary and fleeting. Therefore, our primary focus and priority should center on the things of God, the eternal treasures of the Spirit.

This is a warning from Peter against false teachings about Jesus that can lead us astray. In both the Old and New Testaments, God repeatedly cautions us about false teachers, urging us to be vigilant. False teachings can manifest in what we hear and see. There are two ways to avoid such teachings:

1. 𝗕𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱: This entails being cautious about what we watch or listen to, resisting the devil, and testing all spirits and knowledge through the Word of God. Whatever the devil cannot destroy, it seeks to corrupt. False teachings have the potential to corrupt our faith.
2. 𝗧𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀: As we grow in Christ, we naturally will be resisting error. Growing in grace means becoming more like God, allowing grace to flow from our lives to others just as it flows from Him. Simultaneously, growing in knowledge, not merely about Jesus but of Him, enables us to know the Truth and attain everlasting life.

When we offend God, disobey Him, or engage in wrongdoing, we often assume that God's judgment will only take place after we die. Consequently, we let ourselves go, thinking that we have plenty of time. However, the consequences of disobedience include captivity and being scattered. We can become captives of sins that lead to discouragement, despair, and the influence of the devil. The state of captivity entails suffering, servitude, and indignity. It is a situation marked by failure, deception, and struggle. Only God can grant freedom and purpose. Being scattered implies that we are lost, drifting away from God's presence. It is a state where we lose our purpose, and anything outside of its source faces death. These consequences of disobedience unfold not just after death but right here on earth as we live. Fortunately, God is merciful. The moment we return to Him, repent, He is merciful enough to deliver us from captivity and restore us to His presence, where we can enjoy the privileges of being princes and princesses—living in love, freedom, and peace.

This is Jesus, identified as the Good Shepherd, ready to give His life for His sheep. We are His sheep. The Good Shepherd is a symbol of care, love, and sacrifice. However, it is also a symbol of power, authority, and order. Three aspects of that verse encompass these symbols, providing each of us as Christians with levels of privilege, authority, and responsibility in the Kingdom. The sheep hear the voice: it is the voice of creation, the voice that commands and instructs—a symbol of power, authority, and love. The voice of God can be heard through His Word. Just as we enjoy the authority conferred by this voice, we have the duty to obey it, for it is the voice that will judge us. “I know them”: Jesus knows His people, meaning that He cares and loves each of us. He is also monitoring us and takes to heart that we obey Him, and that His voice is available to guide us in the right path. “And they follow me”: it is the ultimate goal of a Christian—to follow Jesus. This result stems from obeying the voice and staying on the right path. Following Jesus is what gives us our identity as Christians and as sheep.

The wisdom discussed here is not "sophia," which is derived from earthly standards and knowledge, but rather the wisdom rooted in the character, knowledge, and Will of God. In recent days, many lay claim to wisdom, gauging it by the extent of their knowledge or experience, or the intricacy of their arguments. However, they often lack humility, love, mercy, and kindness in their interactions with others. Their actions appear foolish, and their lives fail to reflect respect or consideration for others. Genuine wisdom cannot be found in hearts driven by selfish ambitions or bitter envy. True wisdom is instead gauged by the depth of a person’s character, particularly if that character resembles that of Jesus. It is measured by a life of virtue and benevolent deeds. Who, among you, is truly wise and understanding? It is those whose lives mirror the love, humility, and care for others embodied by Jesus.

The Bible abounds with testimonies of the love, compassion, and goodness of God; in fact, this is the very essence of His being. In Exodus 34:6, God described Himself to Moses as the God of compassion and mercy. The verse we reflect upon today praises the unfailing love and mercy that God extends to His people. God's lovingkindness and mercy act as a failsafe every time we falter and fall short of His glory. These attributes of God serve as a pathway for us to return to Him and stand in His presence, even when we have distanced ourselves due to disobedience and sin. Jesus stands as the ultimate and perfect manifestation of God's love and mercy towards humanity. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. His love for us is so profound that it persists regardless of our actions. Love is who He is. However, to experience this love, we must be open to receiving it. At times, the challenges of life consume our focus, clouding our senses and preventing us from feeling His love. Today, let us take a pause from life's distractions and earnestly ask God to allow us to sense and experience His love.

Human desires often serve as a significant source of conflict among individuals, even extending to Christians. Our constant craving for more leads us to conspire to attain it, fostering feelings of envy or judgment towards those who possess it. This is precisely why God, in the Ten Commandments, prohibits coveting others’ possessions. Such desire is fueled by our own selfish pleasures, leading to behaviors that do not reflect love for our neighbors and are displeasing to God. Rather than pursuing our desires independently, God encourages us to seek Him. He assures us that He hears our prayers and will grant our requests (1 John 1:15). However, there is a condition attached to our requests: we must not seek with selfish motives, satisfying our own pleasures. God emphasizes the importance of aligning our requests with His will, focusing on Him and the advancement of His Kingdom. Everything that God creates exists for His glory, and when we pray for something, it is important to consider whether the fulfillment of that request will ultimately bring glory to God.

Romans 10:17 stands as a pivotal verse in the life of a Christian, offering a strategic blueprint for cultivating our faith—an indispensable component of the foundational doctrine for salvation. Faith is essential for operating in the power and authority intended by God. The process of building faith involves a steadfast commitment to immersing ourselves in the Word of God, which, in turn, will be the ultimate arbiter in judging our lives at the end of time. The concept of "hearing" in this verse transcends mere auditory perception; it encompasses active engagement through understanding, meditation, and revelation by the Holy Spirit. This multifaceted approach is crucial for tapping into the power and authority available in the spiritual realm. Moreover, this active hearing not only leads to the development of faith but also fosters obedience. In essence, faith and obedience are interdependent—faith hinges on our willingness to be obedient. The Word of God, described as spirit and life, holds the key to the promises and plans that God has ordained for our lives. To access these promises, faith becomes the indispensable bridge. Without faith, the abundant life promised by Jesus remains elusive. The Word of God unfolds the various dimensions of God's intentions for us, and without faith, these dimensions remain inaccessible. It is imperative to recognize that faith is not merely an option but a prerequisite for pleasing and knowing our God. Without faith, we are relegated to a natural existence, susceptible to the tribulations and sufferings of this world, living at the mercy of circumstances. Without faith, we are vulnerable.

Psalms 70 is a prayer seeking deliverance from adversaries. In essence, David, in this psalm, implores God for judgment. While some may fear God's judgment, there is no need for us to harbor such fear; however, our adversaries undoubtedly tremble, for when God judges His people, He not only delivers and rewards but also punishes, shames, and disgraces their enemies. Often, we find ourselves cornered by people or situations that aim to discourage us, bring shame, or lead to failure, with the intent to destroy us or our families. At times, life may seem unjust, and we may feel unfairly sentenced without cause. Through this psalm, David introduces us to the God who judges, the One who can deliver us and turn the shame and disgrace intended for us by our enemies back onto them, bringing glory and victory to us. When facing pain or perceiving life as unjust without reason, it's crucial to remember that the mere fact of being a valuable asset to the advancement of the Kingdom of God can make us a target for adversaries seeking to disrupt our lives. However, I also want to remind you that there is a God who saves and delivers His people, a God who judges. When we call upon Him, He not only shames, disgraces, and confuses our adversaries but also destroys them.

Irresponsibility in the Kingdom leads to chaos, judgment, and death. Being irresponsible towards God means failing to adhere to His instructions or prioritize His ways over our own. Just as God rested on the seventh day, He commands us to honor Him by taking that day to rest—the Sabbath. It is one of our responsibilities towards God. By observing the Sabbath, we make a clear affirmation that God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Keeping the Sabbath not only demonstrates respect and honor for God, where we set aside our personal benefits and pleasures to embrace His priorities, but it also signifies trust in Him. Despite working six days a week and relying on our abilities for provision, the day of rest is a reminder that we are ultimately dependent on God. The true essence of the Sabbath lies in reverence and submission to God. It is also a day of delight, joy, and worship. On the Sabbath, we celebrate the majesty, magnificence, power, and love of God through Creation and our interactions with one another. Sabbath is not merely about resting in bed; rather, it is a pause on ourselves and activities to celebrate God, and should not be a point of judgment of others.

The explanation of that verse may be challenging, as it can be subject to various interpretations. However, in today's context, God is teaching us about the perils of isolating ourselves from the counsel of wise individuals He has placed in our lives and distancing ourselves from His own words as revealed in the Bible. In other words, it is perilous to resist sound wisdom, which can enhance both our relationship with God and our relationships with others. God's wisdom is readily available to guide us on the right paths, leading us to prosperity and success in life. Whether it be in business, ministry, school, or family, God's wisdom, as conveyed through His words and relationships with men, is our sole assurance of progress and achievement. Seeking God's wisdom is distinct from pursuing our own desires, as our personal desires often lead to selfishness, jealousy, and hatred. When we prioritize our desires, we tend to undervalue relationships, potentially pushing away the individuals whom God has sent to bless us. In God's dealings with people, He consistently uses others to bestow blessings upon us, as well managed relationships are key principle in the Kingdom. Isolating ourselves from God's ways can only result in failure, deception, and ultimately, spiritual death.

In the previous verses of that chapter, Paul elaborated on the wisdom of God that led to our salvation, leaving us in awe. God used the fall and disobedience of Israel to bring about the salvation of all. How many times have we disrupted God's plans for our lives, only for the same God, in His mercy and love, to transform our mess into a testimony for His Glory? “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise […]” - 1 Corinthians 1: 27. There is nothing impossible for God, as He is all-knowing and all-powerful. "For of Him" - He is the source of all things - "and through Him" - He sustains all things - "and to Him" - He orchestrates all things to bring glory to Himself. This serves as a reminder that we are all dependent on God, and therefore, we ought to trust Him in all His ways. Sometimes, we may believe we are too weak or too unclean for God to use us. Conversely, we might think we are too intelligent, too self-sufficient to rely on Him, or assume that He should a specific way of doing things. This verse reminds us that God is entirely self-sufficient. No one can offer Him advice or criticize His ways. He only can sustain us in this life, regardless of our qualifications or standards, but He can also confound us when we become arrogant. All we need to do is offer Him praise and gratitude.

The journey with God as a Christian is profoundly rewarding. The Apostle Paul portrayed it using the analogy of a race, drawing upon the Olympic Games happening in Corinth at the time. This analogy demonstrates that even in earthly pursuits, people can make sacrifices and exhibit self-discipline to attain a perishable crown. The same way, when it comes to the imperishable crown, it requires also unwavering determination and sacrifice. Living an effective and powerful Christian life that is characterized by complete obedience and submission to God is comparable to running a race. It demands hard work, self-denial, and unwavering consistency to receive the ultimate prize, which is Jesus Christ Himself. For our spiritual life to be efficient and for the power of God to manifest in our lives, we must constantly and daily seek Jesus through faith, obedience, love for others, and a willingness to make sacrifices. Just as our natural life is significantly influenced by our spiritual condition, we should highly value our spiritual race. This race can be effectively run through the time we dedicate to prayer, the study of God's Word, and the practice of worship with rigor and unwavering consistency.
