This is my fight song...although it may not sound like the fight songs we usually hear.
“The Dark Couldn’t Take Us” was born from what my body is facing cancer. In The Last Hymn, the Lycan represents the disease...the thing that hunts, wounds and tries to consume everything in its path. The fire is the pain and fear. But the woman standing beside our heroine represents the love that refuses to let her face any of it alone.
This is not a story about someone who never falls. It is about being knocked down and discovering that the person beside you will reach into the darkness, take your hand and remind you how to rise.
I cannot control everything tomorrow may bring—but I know I will not walk into it alone. When life comes for one of us, it must face both of us.
The darkness may wound us. It may change us. But it will not take us.
This is for everyone fighting a battle—and for every person who chooses to stand beside them. 🖤
