The Westside Gazette Newspaper African American Owned And Operated Weekly Newspaper Bobby R. Henry Sr. CEO and Publisher/Westside Gazette newspaper

Our father, Levi Henry Jr.
(1)

and mother Yvonne F. Henry established this business in 1971. We, the second generation are running it with the third emerging. As we embrace the year 2006, we celebrate 35 years in the newspaper business. As an African American owned and operated weekly newspaper, we work diligently to disseminate vital news and information about and to “people who look like us”. Our parents passed on the legacy

and all the responsibility that goes with that. As we bask in our tradition of being a “Positive paper for Positive People” we uphold our original purpose as we remain true to who we are. Reflecting on this past year of triumphs and difficulties, we can not help but feel tremendous gratitude. We are grateful for our faith, our family, our family business, our staff and reporters, the urban communities we serve, our advertisers and our resilience to bounce back. (Hurricane Wilma and Katrina wrecked havoc in our lives)

We hope you will continue to support us for we are in this together. We have put our stake in the ground on several issues: promoting the education of our youth through academics and sports, disseminating information to prevent and promote healthier lifestyles and us continuing to invest our time and financial resources in South Florida’s urban communities.

White Supremacists Want Missouri Next—But We’re Not Bothered 💥

While an all-white settlement in Arkansas is plotting expansion into Missouri, bipartisan condemnation is coming from both sides of the aisle. But here’s the truth—many in the Black community are completely unbothered. Why? Because we’re done spending Black dollars where we’re not valued.

From the fallout at Target to exposing tired racial stereotypes, Sensible Sue breaks it down with unapologetic clarity. This isn’t about begging for inclusion—it’s about knowing our worth, protecting our spaces, and keeping our money in communities that celebrate us.
