La Traviata. CANADIAN OPERA COMPANY. Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, Toronto. September 18 — October 17, 2026
Verdi’s La Traviata returns to the Canadian Opera Company in Arin Arbus’s intimate, human scaled production.The story is one of opera’s most enduring: Violetta, the glittering centre of Parisian society, falls in love with Alfredo Germont. His father intervenes, society tightens its grip, and her illness advances faster than hope. When they find each other again, the moment has already slipped away.
What makes this season’s run exceptional is the musical calibre driving it. Paolo Carignani, one of today’s foremost Verdi interpreters, leads the COC Orchestra and Chorus — from the effervescent sweep of the “Brindisi” to the heartbreaking four bars of stillness that close the opera.
The role of Violetta is shared by Kathryn Lewek and Andriana Chuchman, two artists with distinct vocal colours and dramatic sensibilities. Long Long and Luke Norvell alternate as Alfredo, with Russell Braun and Reginald Smith, Jr. as Giorgio Germont, bringing depth and gravitas to Verdi’s most complex father figure.

Fall for Dance Festival 2026 New York City Center Sep 22 – Oct 3, 2026.
The 23rd Fall for Dance Festival returns with seven international companies and 11 premieres — a sweeping celebration of movement, music, and the artists who keep dance evolving.
This year’s programs echo with the music we love: The Royal Ballet brings Paganini – The First Virtuoso to the US for the first time, a portrait of the violin’s original showman rendered in choreography. Miami City Ballet dances Alexei Ratmansky’s Roses from the South: Three Waltzes for Toby. And former NYCB Principal Robbie Fairchild unveils a new work titled Lord Chamberlain’s Men inspired by the origin story of Romeo & Juliet, co commissioned with Guild Hall.
Across five programs, the festival expands its reach: Martha Graham Dance Company, Boston Ballet in Akram Khan’s Vertical Road, San Francisco Ballet in Cherkaoui’s Faun, flamenco artist Juan Tomás de la Molía, The Australian Ballet, and Australia’s Drama Desk winning Pony Cam with a world premiere reflecting on the festival’s own history.
A season of premieres, legends, and the pulse of New York’s dance community.

Don Giovanni. Royal Opera House. September 10 – October 15, 2026 | London, UK. Mozart’s great opera of seduction, betrayal and dark comedy returns to the Royal Ballet & Opera. Gordon Bintner leads a stellar cast — Rachel Willis Sørensen, Aigul Akhmetshina, Roberto Tagliavini, Bogdan Volkov — under the baton of Stefano Montanari.
Kasper Holten’s production plunges into the dangerous allure of desire, while Es Devlin’s visionary designs blur the boundary between reality and Giovanni’s twisting inner world.
Mozart’s score dazzles with invention: gorgeous arias, volatile duets, and the intricate layering of dance rhythms. A darker collaboration with Lorenzo Da Ponte, Don Giovanni premiered in Prague and became an instant triumph — a masterpiece that has never loosened its grip on audiences.

ZeitenLos, Beethoven Reimagined for a New Century. Hamburg.
In the 2026/27 season, the Philharmonic Concerts turn their focus to Ludwig van Beethoven, honoring the 200th anniversary of his passing in 2027. A season that invites us to dissolve the boundaries of time and encounter Beethoven anew — as energy, as emotion, as a universal language.
Under the motto “ZeitenLos”, Omer Meir Wellber weaves together all 37 movements of the nine symphonies, opening unexpected sound spaces filled with life, contrasts, inner relationships, ideas, and inspirations. A journey suspended between eternity and the present moment.
At its core stands the iconic “fate motif” of the Fifth Symphony — perhaps the most recognizable gesture in all symphonic music. Paired with movements from the Seventh and Fourth Symphonies, it creates a harmonic and rhythmic tension that reframes Beethoven beyond familiar listening habits.
The programme begins with Piotr I. Tchaikovsky’s “Fatum”, a symphonic poem shaped by destiny, and continues with Fazıl Say’s evocative piano concerto “Silence of Anatolia”, performed by the composer himself.
A season of fate, transformation, and timeless resonance.

BREGENZ FESTIVAL 80 Years of Vision on Water https://youtu.be/JVIiqSzqCu0 The Bregenz Festival, one of Europe’s most breathtaking opera celebrations, marked its spectacular 80thanniversary season with a month of music, light, and architectural wonder on Lake Constance.
At the heart of the season stood the festival’s firstever staging of Verdi’s La Traviata on the iconic floating stage, the Seebühne. Director Damiano Michieletto transported Violetta’s world into the glittering “Roaring Twenties,” infusing the production with jazzage glamour and artdeco elegance. Dominating the lake was a monumental 25meter shattered mirror, a striking symbol of Violetta’s fragile destiny and one of the most ambitious installations ever constructed for the festival.
Another highlight unfolded at the Festspielhaus with Leoš Janáček’s The Excursions of Mr. Brouček, directed by Yuval Sharon. Embracing surrealist aesthetics, Sharon followed the hapless Prague everyman through two absurd journeys — first to the Moon, then back to 15thcentury Prague. Sharp, witty, and unexpectedly timely, the production quickly became one of the season’s standout successes.
For audiences drawn to experimental theatre, the Viennabased collective M.A.R.S. delivered a sensation with YUM!. Framed as a musical performance, it invited spectators to an exquisite dinner in a world ravaged by climate catastrophe — where real food no longer exists. Through augmented reality, simple jelly transformed into black caviar and truffles, creating a provocative satire on consumer culture and the illusions of luxury. A daring fusion of opera and digital art, it left an unforgettable mark on the anniversary season.

Salzburg Festival 2026. Austria. Until August 30th. As Goethe wrote, and as Hugo von Hofmannsthal once said: "Salzburg is the heart of Europe…”
The Festival in Salzburg was founded more than 100 years ago by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Max Reinhardt and Richard Strauss — and is a magnet today more than ever.
What makes this event so special? It offers a broader artistic programme than any other festival — opera, drama and concerts, spanning from Mozart to modern works, from classical interpretations to avant-garde experimentation, from Hofmannsthal's Jedermann to Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. Only the best artists from around the world are invited to Salzburg. Visitors can combine the enjoyment of art with vacationing — daytime excursions in the Salzkammergut, evenings with incomparable performances.
The Festival has a very special flair. Salzburg's baroque old city architecture in almost perfect condition forms a breathtaking backdrop. Conductors, stage-directors, orchestras, singers, actors and instrumentalists of world renown gather here in summer. Even the most eminent opera stars come together to rehearse for several weeks, fulfilling the original vision of Hugo von Hofmannsthal: "Dramatic play-acting in the strongest sense is our intention; routine, run-of-the-mill performances have no place here."
In 2026, the Association of Friends of the Salzburg Festival enriches the festival with a varied accompanying programme — talks, lectures and discussions with artists, academics and cultural figures — always in dialogue with the programme.
