๐ŸŒ… A Sunsetโ€ฆ That Wonโ€™t Return for Over 2 Months
The northernmost part of Alaska has now entered Polar Night โ€” a period when the sun never rises above the horizon.

๐ŸŒ Due to Earthโ€™s tilt in the winter season, communities this far north experience 64 consecutive days with no sunrise at all.

๐Ÿ“ In Utqiaฤกvik, Alaska, todayโ€™s sunset was the last one of the year.
โ˜€๏ธ The sun wonโ€™t rise again until January 22, 2026.

โ›ˆ๏ธ BREAKING UPDATE

HURRICANE MELISSA NOW CONFIRMED TO HAVE THE STRONGEST WIND GUST EVER RECORDED IN A HURRICANE

The National Centers for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) has confirmed an extraordinary 252 mph wind gust recorded inside Hurricane Melissa.

๐Ÿ“ก This was measured by a dropsonde โ€” a probe released from an aircraft โ€” just 750 ft above the surface before it fell into the ocean.
๐Ÿ’จ This is now the strongest wind gust ever measured by a dropsonde worldwide.

๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ NOAAโ€™s Hurricane Hunters worked with specialists at the NSF/NCAR office to verify the data. The probe used was a Vaisala NRD41, the standard dropsonde used globally.

๐Ÿ“… The measurement occurred Tuesday morning, October 28, hours before Melissaโ€™s landfall.
๐ŸŒŠ At the time, Melissa had 185 mph sustained winds over open water, with constant lightning in the eyewall.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Melissaโ€™s 252 mph gust beats the previous dropsonde record of 248 mph in Typhoon Megi (2010).

๐ŸŒช๏ธ It also nearly matches the strongest wind gust ever recorded on Earth โ€” 254 mph on Barrow Island, Australia during Cyclone Olivia (1996), later certified by the World Meteorological Organization.

09:30PM - Showers affecting Trinidad and Tobago likely to continue off and on through Thursday

Showery activity associated with a trough continues to affect Trinidad and Tobago tonight.

While some areas are not experiencing much activity, it is likely that most areas will experience off and on showers through Wednesday and Thursday .

Some of these showers can become heavy at times and be accompanied by Gusty Winds and Localized Street Flooding.

There is a chance for isolated thunderstorm activity favoring Wednesday early morning and late morning to afternoon periods.

11/18/2025

Through tonight and over the next 2 days, periods of rainfall and showers are expected with the potential for isolated heavy downpours or thunderstorms.

This is due to multiple trough systems and the ITCZ near the region.

A HIGH WIND ALERT is in effect until 7:45PM tonight but that is for peak activity. Additional gusty winds can occur outside this period through Thursday 20th November 2025.

Localized street flooding can also occur in heavy downpours!
