Denmark’s Aalborg Airport Shuts Down After Drone Activity

Air traffic at Aalborg Airport was halted Wednesday after drones were confirmed flying over the area, marking the second time this week Denmark has closed an airport due to drone sightings. Earlier on Monday, Copenhagen Airport was forced to suspend operations for several hours after large drones violated its airspace.

Police said the drones involved were not hobby models but larger, advanced devices likely operated by skilled controllers. While several airports reported suspicious activity overnight, Aalborg’s sightings were the only ones verified.

The disruption caused at least three flights to divert and led to several cancellations. Authorities are considering how to neutralize drones without endangering flight safety or public security. The incidents come as Europe remains on alert after Russian drones recently violated Polish and Romanian airspace, prompting NATO to strengthen defenses along its eastern flank.

The Government of Portugal has issued a Hurricane Warning for all of the Azores Islands as Hurricane Gabrielle advances rapidly.

Gabrielle is forecast to continue moving east-southeast, passing over or near the western coast of Portugal on Sunday and Monday.

It has been some time since the Iberian Peninsula has appeared within a hurricane forecast cone. Historically, the region has experienced 10 recorded landfallsβ€”7 in Portugal, 2 in Spain, and 1 in Morocco. All of these systems made landfall as extratropical, subtropical, or depression-stage cyclones, rather than as fully tropical storms or hurricanes.

PRIVATE AIRCRAFT CRASHES AT CARACAS AIRPORT

A Learjet 55 (registration YV3440) private aircraft crashed on Wednesday during takeoff at MaiquetΓa β€œSimΓ³n BolΓvar” International Airport, producing a large plume of smoke visible across parts of the central coastline.

According to aeronautical authorities, two people were rescued alive and are in stable condition. The jet, reportedly linked to the Venezuelan regime and frequently used by Chavista officials on trips to Cuba, went down at 12:52 p.m. as it attempted to depart.

The National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC) confirmed that search and rescue protocols were immediately activated, and an Accident Investigation Board has been convened to determine the cause of the crash. Officials highlighted the rapid deployment of emergency response teams and the launch of the technical forensic process mandated by aviation regulations.

Witnesses and residents in nearby areas shared videos showing the impact and the thick smoke rising from the airport’s main runway. These images quickly spread on social media.

As of this report, authorities have not disclosed the total number of occupants, the operator of the aircraft, its intended destination, or the probable cause of the incident.

4:25 PM Update
Meteorological observations confirm that the tropical wave associated with a low-pressure system in the central tropical Atlantic has developed a closed circulation. As a result, the disturbance has strengthened into Tropical Storm Humberto.

At 4:25 PM, Humberto was centered near 20.1Β°N, 54.9Β°W, moving west-northwest at approximately 15 mph (24 km/h). A gradual turn toward the west-northwest to northwest is expected over the next several days, along with a reduction in forward speed.

Maximum sustained winds: 40 mph (65 km/h), with higher gusts

Forecast: Steady strengthening expected in the coming days

Wind field: Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center

Estimated minimum central pressure: 1008 mb (29.77 inHg)

⚠️ At this time, Tropical Storm Humberto poses no threat to Trinidad, Tobago, or the Lesser Antilles.

RARE TWIN TROPICAL STORMS EXPECTED TO FORM; A COMPLEX SITUATION IS LIKELY TO UNFOLD

There is heightened tropical activity across the Atlantic, with a complex situation developing involving two tropical waves now being monitored by the National Hurricane Center: Invest 93L and 94L.

Invest 93L – This system has a very high (90%) chance of development within the next 48 hours. A Tropical Depression or Storm is expected to form by tonight, well northeast of the Northern Lesser Antilles.

Invest 94L – This wave, which brought heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to Trinidad, Tobago, and the Lesser Antilles on Tuesday, September 23rd, carries a high (80%) chance of development over the next 7 days.

It is unusual to see two tropical cyclones forming in such close proximity. By this weekend into early next week, both systems could reach Tropical Storm or Hurricane strength near the waters east of Florida and the U.S. East Coast. Their interaction may involve the Fujiwhara Effectβ€”a phenomenon where nearby storms influence each other’s paths:

Far apart (900+ miles / 1450 km): Minimal interaction; each storm follows its own track.

Moderately close (900–350 miles / 1450–560 km): The storms begin to orbit a common center, altering their speed and direction.

Very close (under 220 miles / 350 km): Either the stronger storm absorbs the weaker one, or both weaken due to destructive interaction.

If equal in strength: They may merge into a single, stronger systemβ€”or continue orbiting each other before separating.

This creates a highly complex forecast, and outcomes remain uncertain. Residents of Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, and Florida should closely monitor updates on these disturbances.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Gabrielle is on track to impact the Azores between Thursday and Friday. A Hurricane Warning has been issued for all islands as a direct strike appears imminent.

Additionally, another tropical waveβ€”not expected to developβ€”is forecast to move into the Lesser Antilles on Saturday, September 27th, bringing an increased risk of showers and thunderstorms.

...NEXT TROPICAL WAVE EXPECTED ON SATURDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER...

Although a tropical wave is still sparking showers and thunderstorms over the Windward Islands, Republic Day on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, will bring brighter and fairer conditions to Trinidad and Tobago. Weather will also gradually improve across the Windwards, Barbados, and the Leewards as the day goes on.

Thursday and Friday look relatively sunny, with just an isolated shower or stray thunderstorm possible.

The next generally wet day is expected on Saturday, 27th September, when another tropical wave sweeps the island chain, increasing the chances of more frequent showers and thunderstorms.

8:50 PM – The Greater Antilles, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas remain on alert as the tropical wave that recently affected Trinidad and Tobago and the Lesser Antilles now carries a high chance of developing into a tropical depression later this week.

Earlier today, the system produced periods of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong gusts, and frequent lightning across the Leeward and Windward Islands, including Trinidad and Tobago. It is now being officially monitored by the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC).

The NHC has classified the disturbance as Invest 94L, an β€œarea of investigation” designation used when a tropical wave or disturbance shows potential to develop into a tropical depression or storm. This allows forecasters to gather data and closely monitor its progress.

As of 8:00 PM, the NHC has raised development chances to 70% within the next 7 days. While immediate development is not expected, conditions are forecast to become more favorable near the Bahamas and Greater Antilles, increasing the likelihood of tropical depression formation. Residents in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), the Turks and Caicos, and the Bahamas should monitor updates closely.

In the meantime, periods of heavy showers, rainfall, and thunderstorms are expected to continue. These impacts will first affect the Leeward and Windward Islands, including Trinidad and Tobago overnight, before spreading into the Greater Antilles and Puerto Rico by Wednesday.

12:33 PM - Invest 94L is affecting the Lesser Antilles, Trinidad and Tobago

A large area of disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity located over the Lesser Antilles, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and the adjacent water of the Atlantic Ocean is associated with an area of disturbed weather flagged as Invest 94L by the National Hurricane Center.

While development of this system is not expected over these islands, additional development is possible as the system near the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and Florida area later this week. The system has a 60% chance of becoming a Tropical Depression in 7 days and residents in those areas aforementioned should monitor the progress of this system.

Regardless, shower and thunderstorm activity associated with the passage of this system today is currently affecting the Leeward and Windward Islands. Heavier showers and thunderstorms are currently over Barbados southward to Trinidad.

Gusty winds and street or flash flooding is possible in heavy showers and thunderstorms.

In the latest 10AM Forecast issued by the TTMS, it states.
For Trinidad and Tobago.
" Day: Variably cloudy conditions with occasional showers/periods of rain and thunderstorm activity is expected. Conditions should become more settled by evening despite lingering showery activity. Nighttime: Fair to partly cloudy with a few showers.

NOTE: IN THE EVENT OF HEAVY SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS, GUSTY WINDS AND LIGHTNING ACTIVITY ARE LIKELY AND STREET/FLASH FLOODING MAY OCCUR IN AREAS SO PRONE!"

"The Windward Islands
Mostly cloudy conditions with widespread showers/ periods of rain of varying intensities and occasional thunderstorms are likely.
LEEWARD ISLANDS
Partly cloudy to cloudy with showery activity increasing as the day progresses. Scattered thunderstorm activity is expected to persist from afternoon through the night."
