SPF Small Press Fair

SPF Small Press Fair SPF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to print, book and zine culture that hosts an annual Small Press Fair in South Florida.

SPF Small Press Fair is an opportunity for local and regional artists, printers, booksellers, publishers, authors, poets, bookmakers, designers, zinesters and cultural workers to share ideas and showcase new work related to print making, book making and zine creation. This mega event brings together an array of local publishers and regional small presses to explore and celebrate independent print

culture - a hybrid sub culture with roots in the visual arts and literary disciplines. Through independent presses and self-published works, the human experience is retold with incredible intimacy, through the hand crafted, the diy-pressed and the immediacy not seen in traditional mediums and publishing tools. These unique editions study, tell, interpret, analyze, and document the intensely personal experiences through the eyes of artists and authors. In addition to a market for the community to discover and connect with local vendors, SPF will host a series of live demonstrations, mini workshops, a zine making station and talks.

This sucks. And it’s taken a bit to sink in for us… there will be no SPF’25 💔

We believe in the value of printmaking, book arts, and zine creation. We wholeheartedly believe artists should be paid and that their time and work is meaningful. We have worked tirelessly to keep our budget as lean as possible to ensure lowest feasible fees for exhibitors and to keep the fair free and open to the public since 2016. But the reality is that 40% of our funding comes from the State of Florida’s Cultural Division, and when that funding gets eliminated by our governor and legislature (for 3 out of the last 5 years), small arts non-profits like ours suffer the most.

This year would have been our 10th fair, and you know we want to do it right. We’re going to take the year to regroup and find an alternative path forward for the fair.

The hardest part of cancelling the fair this year is knowing that our exhibitors will lose that chance to share their work, meet new fans, and make their practice more sustainable. So take a scroll down 👇, follow and like and buy from some SPF’s 9 years of exhibitors to show some love 💕

Don’t worry too much about SPF, we are committed to coming back better than ever! We have some really fun announcements coming up and we’re looking forward to expanding our capacity to promote printmaking, book arts, and zine creation right here in South Florida.

☀️1. Zodiac Realm Books (.g.murphy) will be bringing zodiac stickers, fantasy books, children’s book, and zodiac posters.
☀️ 2. Sweat Records () will feature some crates of records, Sweat tees and merchandise, and other related accessories.
☀️ 3. The Creative Educator (.creative19) with Sasha’s Big Day, a coloring book, and a journal for children to learn to help understand their feelings.
☀️ 4. Sequential Artists Workshop () is a 501-c(3) non-profit school for comics and pedagogy. They will have 8 student anthologies from their online programs, faculty work, Friday Night Comics promotional material, SAW fliers, SAW brochures, SAW stickers, Nancy & Bob Ross trading cards, key chains, and a mailing list for folks to learn more about our programming both in Gainesville, Florida and online internationally.

Florida International University - Printmaking () will be rocking it with us at bringing with them a collection of prints produced by graduate and undergraduate students at FIU.
Fun fact about their program: “We approach printmaking in a manner that emphasizes content along with the craft of creation. The program serves about 50 students each semester in our classes. Students work in relief, intaglio and screenprinting and also explore unique impression and book formats.”
