There may be a chance that the additional tax credit gets extended through a vote that is coming up on December 9th. If the tax credit expires heres a few things you need to know:
-There will still be a subsidy available for those with household incomes between 100-400% of the Federal Poverty Line( I will post a chart for you to reference)
-There are plans from $0 per month based on income. For those between 100-150% of the FPL you will still see plans that are $0 but most likely you will have a monthly premium if you want a silver plan with Cost Sharing Reduction(CSR=lower deductible, coinsurance, moop, and copays)
-The IRS DOES NOT charge you for the insurance at the end of the year! However if you earn less than what you put on your application you may be entitled to a refund. Likewise if you earn more than what you put on your application you may owe additional federal income tax. This is because the subsidies work on a sliding scale. A good agent can help you estimate your income so that there are no surprises at the end of the year.
-There are options off the marketplace that could save you money if you will not be entitled to a subsidy this year.
-The deadline to enroll in 2026 coverage that starts Jan 1st is December 15th. If you miss this date you will have until Jan 15th to enroll in a plan with a Feb 1st start date.
-Lower income applicants will not be able to qualify for an SEP throughout the year as was the case last year. If you miss the enrollment the only way to enroll in coverage before next years open enrollment is with a qualifying life event.

December 15th is the deadline to get health insurance coverage to the marketplace with a start date of January 1. After that you will until January 15th to enroll in a plan for 2026 with coverage starting February 1. Anyone who needs assistance to find the right plan that covers your doctors covers your prescriptions and your basic needs. ACA and Medicare Advantage enrollment help 2026. Lots of changes coming due to tax credits that will expire at the end of December, increased costs for health care services. I am a local agent and I am a broker which means I work for my clients not the carriers. I can help you choose the right plan for your needs while saving you time. My fee is paid by the carrier which means you get the same cost as what it would’ve cost you to enroll yourself without the help of a professional if you were ever going to use an agent that did not charge you any more more money than what you would have to spend anyway this would be that year.
