Since starting in Amateur Radio I have fallen in love with the Technology and Science of Radios and Antennas and I also have found a love for Nets. I find our Local and Regional Nets to be informative but they leave me wanting more. I like the information but I seem to always have a hard time hearing the links or copying the instructions. I also feel that the checking in by rounds is not conducive to technical discussion. We needed a better way....
So... I came up with a New Concept! This concept encompasses the best practices of our group's nets and includes the great things I found on other nets as well as fresh ideas that may work very well in this environment. This New Concept involves a very different format and a companion website. The Format will be on the Zoom Platform where we can show and demonstrate what we are working on each week. They can also share files and links directly on the website on the LIVE tab.
We always take topics brought by participants one by one, allowing anyone to provide input and help. For each topic we will encourage everyone to paste in photos, text, or links about that topic, equipment, or issue. We will discuss each topic thoroughly and completely before going to the next topic. The other thing that makes this net different is we will be here until the end. No Rushing, No Deadlines, no 2 round limit. This is a Long Form Net with lots of Direct Discussion and lots of good information available for everyone to take away. Once everyone is tuckered out, we will end. I want to make sure that people never feel rushed or that the point they have is not important enough because we are out of time. I want this net to be as long as it needs to be and never rushed. The Net's Website features the Live Tab as we discussed earlier, but it also has Helpful Resources, a Lightning Tracker, a Space Weather Tracker, a List of Local Mentors and Nubie Geeks like me that are willing to help folks out, Ham Radio News and Information, and a list of all our local nets and clubs. I look forward to speaking to you on the Net! Ian Hickin - KO4EFS
