🦪Oysters are filter-feeding mollusks, and each oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day, they play a key role in coastal ecosystems!

On Tuesday we had the beautiful honor of volunteering alongside SCCF (Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation) and Coastal Watch yet again, this time to help with oyster restoration efforts here in southwest Florida!

We filled a whopping 4500lbs+ of shell in buckets by hand, then loaded those buckets onto the trailer to be transported to the marine lab. From there, we loaded the buckets onto the boat. From the lab we traveled by boat to the location in Tarpon Bay where we distributed all 4500lbs+ of shell. Staff and volunteers transported a total of 9,000+ Ibs of shell that day for oyster restoration efforts!! Operation oyster was a success!!

It feels so incredibly amazing to be apart of something so important, so crucial to our coastal communities. This organization is hands down one of my favorites, I cannot say enough good things about them. As always, Skye and Kealy are absolutely incredible and do an outstanding job. If you’ve ever thought about or considered volunteering with one of your own local charities or organizations, I highly encourage you to go for it! Giving back always feels so good!
