11 years today since we lost my wonderful Dad at age 92. At least once a day I find myself thinking about him. He's still the smartest, classiest man I've ever known and the epitome of 'An Officer and a Gentleman'!

My great student Gregg made my whole day yesterday after texting me with the news of his victory in a South Florida Amateur event which was held at my course. We had a lesson the day before and got his swing smoother and more powerful than ever. We first met March of 2023 when he was brand new to the game, and had just returned from a tournament where he shot 118 and 120, so he's come a long way. This was his 5th win this year so I'm super proud of his hard work.

I also received two texts with invites to be a speaker at a PGA meeting, one local and one out of town, so that was nice.

We also finally had our first cool front here in SW Florida last Thursday with a low of 59 degrees. First time since early April that we've been that cool so it felt great. Really makes me look forward to doing my holiday (Clark Griswold) lights, with Christmas now just 10 weeks away. ("Is your house on fire Clark??) πŸ˜πŸŽ„

I got a wonderful text the other day from one of Karen and my dearest friends, Nir Kabaretti. Nir is one of the top, most respected Conductors in the world, and one of our favorite people ever. He and my sister Susan have worked together for nearly 20 years, as he is the part-time maestro of the Santa Barbara symphony in California where Susan has been GM for many years. They also worked together here in SW, Florida, as well as Nir's many occasions of conducting orchestras all around the world. Pretty cool that he speaks 5 languages too!

A few months ago Nir texted me that his son Adam (an avid golfer) was invited to play in the Tiger Woods Junior Invitational tournament at Pebble Beach, which is an honor in itself. Nir was excited to tell me that Adam won first place in his age group, the 13-15 year olds. That's AWESOME! Tiger wasn't able to come as he's still recovering from his latest back surgery, but Tour Pros Max Homa and Gary Woodland were there doing clinics for the kids.

Nir and his beautiful wife Gaja came to our Christmas party in 2015 along with their daughter and a very young Adam, aka 'Batman'.

A while back Susan sent me this picture of them at a rehearsal. I had to add the funny text and send it to him. Glad he has a great sense of humor.

Nir and I have discussed several times that whenever they visit Florida again they'll plan to have Adam spend a few days on the range with me so we can work on fine tuning his already terrific golf game. Great going Adam, and so super proud of you!!

I always love helping out our great staff with lessons from our GM and assistant pros, to our cart staff and rangers. This morning I had a lesson with Martin, one of our starters/rangers. He's a 70 'something' year old, and has never had a lesson with me or anyone.

His first few swings here that I got on video, I couldn't help but smile knowing that he would improve dramatically when we just worked on his set-up. If I've seen it once, I've seen it a million times in 44 years of teaching. If you stand there poorly, you're going to hit a poor shot! It's amazing how much a golfer can improve if you simply improve their set-up. Martin's aim, 'slouch' and being ahead of the ball during his set-up was interfering with his swing which actually wasn't too bad. When he saw himself side-by-side with Tiger and Ben Crenshaw, the differences were so noticible.

During my 5 years working under Ken Venturi I certainly learned the importance of the address position. He said, and I say in nearly every lesson that most amateurs will never have the power, flexibility, or speed of a Tour Pro, but there's no reason they can't 'set-up' as good as they do. Martin had a golf swing in there, but it couldn't show itself with his set-up.

We got him setting up like a pro and within a shot or two he started nailing them dead straight and solid and picked up a lot of distance. His swing improved because his set-up improved.

The excitment he had, and the smile on his face made my whole day!!

No one in the world looks forward to October more than I do. I love teaching golf more than anything, but living in SW Florida, May-September is pretty brutal with the heat. Most days on the range, the temperture in the sun is well over 100 degrees! October is still warm, but our highs are in the 80's instead of mid-90's and that's a BIG difference and quite a relief.

In addition to that, is knowing that Halloween and doing all my lights is coming soon. Our neighborhood in amazing for Halloween and I look forward to it all year.

I don't do nearly the 40,000 + lights that I do for Christmas, but still put up about 10,000, along with all the monster inflatables. I just bought about 25 new boxes of orange lights so I'll be ready.

The first step, which was the last few days, is trimming all the shrubs down about halfway so I can put all the lights on and they won't grow back too soon. It's always a battle, me against the yard, but I win, even after a lot of cuts and pulled muscles, ha, ha! πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

I've had more than a few folks comment on how much Parker and I look alike after seeing the first pic here from our birthdays last week. Thought it would be fun to find some others that had us almost matched up at the same age. The one of me when I'm 10 next to him is really something.

He's cuter and more handsome though, and dwarfs me on that last one, ha, ha! 😎

I saw one of our local weathermen today and we were chatting about all the rain and the temps. SW Florida has officially had the most rain EVER for the summer! It's been a more 'typical' summer this year with rain almost every afternoon. Some days it's rained in the morning which is unusual. It usually starts about 3:00 and lasts a few hours, but then it cools it off nicely and the evening is quite nice.

Just today, when I was riding my bike I took a picture looking West, showing the beautiful blue sky. At the same time I took one looking East (where the storms usually come from) and it was it's usual'scary'!

He shared some of his stats with me too. Last July and August were the hottest EVER in SW Florida! This summer we've had 8 days of heat indexes over 100 degrees, with the hottest being 107. Last year we had 6 weeks of indexes over 110, and most near 120, with the 4th of July hitting 122 degrees! It was like being in the Sahara Desert! It hardly rained at all last Summer, and it was the second driest July and August on record. Without the rain it simply never cooled things off. I posted the photo of me last year after just one lesson, where I was soaking wet everywhere!

Looking forward to October and November that's for sure! 😎

Karen's been away in Orlando for four days, attending a work conference. I always miss her when she's gone.

I posted last week about finding some 'Estrella' beer at the local Publix which they've never carried before. It's the beer made in Barcelona that we had when we were there last month and it's delicious! I had one for my own happy hour yesterday and was so amazed and happy how the taste and smell of it took me right back to being with her in Spain. But then it was also a bit melancholy having the beer but not her, so I texted her these pics.

She comes home later today, and it seems this morning's sunrise, complete with the moon and the bird flying are even starting the day off great!

Ahh, just 4 months from today is Christmas Day! Think it's time to start organizing my lights!! πŸ˜πŸŽ„πŸ˜Ž

When Karen and I were in Barcelona for a few days before we picked up our cruise ship, it seems the only beer that every restaurant offered was one called, 'Estrella'. It's the national beer of Spain and is made right there in Barcelona. I had never heard of it before but it's yummy!! They serve it in mason jars as you can see in the pic of us in our favorite restaurant.

So, just this morning I went to our local Publix and 'Lo and Behold' there it was for the first time ever! Looking forward to enjoying one this afternoon and thinking about all the memories from our wonderful trip! 🍺
